The Real Top Models

Style.com has...

the runways' winningest new models

With the return of the old guard—Tatjana Patitz, Tasha Tilberg, Adriana Lima, etc.—and smaller castings due to recessionary constraints, it was tougher than ever for up-and-comers to stake a claim this season. Here, Style.com's favorite new faces. —Romney Leader

1. alla kostromicheva (women direct)

After some impressive cameos on the Spring catwalks, this arresting Ukrainian stomped onto the New York scene with appearances at Alexander Wang and Donna Karan. A streak in Paris yielded the first-exit honors at Yves Saint Laurent and Alexander McQueen.

2. anna de rijk (dna)

A lucky break on a Dutch reality show led this runway newbie from top London castings (Christopher Kane, Jaeger) to the most enviable shows in Milan and Paris. A moon-shaped face and a cleft chin are her standout features.

3. dorothea barth jorgensen (women direct)

Beguiling eyes and a Cupid's bow mouth helped this Stockholmer parlay the grand prize in a Swedish modeling contest into a runway takeover. Proenza Schouler, Marc Jacobs, Prada, and Chanel were just a few of her blue-chip Fall bookings.

4. hanna rundlof (marilyn)

With a look that reminds us of a young Cate Blanchett, this fresh-faced Swede was a steady presence on the Fall catwalks. Turns at Calvin Klein, Jil Sander, and Dries Van Noten (the latter of which she opened) are just the start of good things.

5. jac (img)

This Poland native caused quite a stir when she landed a succession of covers and an Hermès campaign at just 13. Two years later, she still had to sit out Paris due to age restrictions, but she closed Marni and was first and last out at Calvin Klein, the Fall campaign of which she scored last week.

6. karolin wolter (supreme)

A hectic month that included the coveted first exit at Jil Sander, coupled with a recent editorial in Vogue China, should yield an impressive campaign season for this regal-looking German.

7. katie fogarty (next)

Not letting a spectacular spill at last season's Prada show get her down, this Missouri teen proved herself a worthy strutter this time around. A stellar show list, including Balenciaga and Chloé, makes this her true breakout season.

8. kendra spears (ford)

She hails from the Pacific Northwest, but there's nothing laid-back about this sociology student's rise. After winning a Ford modeling contest via MySpace, Spears—who draws comparisons to Cindy Crawford—landed on the runways at Nina Ricci and Louis Vuitton.

9. nimue smit (women)

Not a newcomer in the truest sense—she's the face of the latest Prada campaign, after all—this doll-faced Dutch cutie decided against the exclusives that have previously kept her under the radar to claim spots in vet-heavy shows like Michael Kors, Bottega Veneta, and Chanel.

10. tao okamoto (supreme)

This Japanese mannequin has been spotted on the catwalks before, but a fresh look—a chic new bowl cut inspired the wigs at 3.1 Phillip Lim—led to multiple castings: She logged over 45 shows, including Miu Miu, becoming the first Asian model to walk for the brand in two years.

I am kinda of sad y the lack of minorities. They have one minority listed. I love Tao, and I think her hair is great, but to be honest with you guys, I'm not surprised she is the only one up there. Actually I'm more surprised that they had one minority up there.

Beyonce's Tour Outfits Revealed

I'm back from the bug-infested, muddy, rainy wilderness. I not really into to camping but I still had fun even though I was attacked by rain and pollination. I thought rain was supposed to wash rain away. LOL!

Anyway I have the pics from Beyonce's tour. I found them on the ybf.

It looks like she ripped of Madonna, but she always rips off someone so I'm not surprised.

Sasha Fierce Tour Costumes

Just when I thought I was sick of Beyonce, she had to go and get Thierry Mugler to design her tour costumes? I am digging them to the fullest. What do you think? I personally can't wait to see photos and videos from her tour.

MTV Brings Back House of Style

The new House of Style was made strictly for teenagers, with its talk of friendship bracelets and sponsorship from Teen Vogue. Here are a few things that I noticed about the show:
  • Charlotte Ronson didn't smile once, but she did manage to to say one word, "Yeah"
  • MTV used every chance they could get to put Bar Rafaeli in a bikini.
  • Since we are on the topic of Bar, let's talk about how she is a good host, but tries to be like Heidi Klum a little too much.
  • I am glad Chanel Iman is getting face time, but I feel like they could have showed her more.
  • Jessica Stam's segment was great. She would have made a better host.
  • Erin Fetherston is cool, but her voice was annoying. I like how spaced out and whimsical she is. The party she organized was beautiful and I need to find a way to make her party masks.
  • I also loved the My House of Style segments. They took regular people and they discussed their style like a streetwear blog post.

My Cameras

Journey's Through Fashion recently asked in the comments section what camera do I use. Well I use several. The pictures I took of my shoes were taken with a Canon EOS Rebel 2000 35 mm SLR. Then I put them in Poladroid. It is a program that lets you change your photos in to Polaroids. I also use a Holga that I modified to shoot 35 mm film instead of 120 film.

I am excited because I just bought a Flip digital camcorder that shoots about 60 mins of video I can't wait to try and shoot a video for you guys.

Then for my digital pictures, like the ones from the Inauguration, I use Kodak Easy Share V1003. It is a little 10 megapixel point and shoot. I am trying to figure out what DSLR I want. I am looking at Nikon's. Which DSLR do you all like?

What In The Crazy Cat Lady Hell Is This!

Kenley Collins From Project Runway Beat up her bf with a cat?!?!?!?!

From TMZ.com:
One of the most memorable -- and hated -- finalists from "Project Runway" is behind bars right now for allegedly fashioning a weapon out of a living, breathing, meowing cat ... and firing it at her ex-fiance!

Kenley Collins -- the trash-talking, third place loser from P.R. Season 5 -- was arrested in a Brooklyn home early yesterday morning, after the D.A. claims she attacked her sleeping ex-fiance with anything she could get her hands on -- including a cat, a laptop, several apples and finally ... water. It's like a design challenge turned violent!

It's unclear what started the fight, but according to legal papers Kenley told her ex, "You're lucky ... it could've been a lot worse."

Kenley was arrested and charged with six crimes -- including 2nd degree assault, 3rd degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree.

No word on when Kenley is set to be released from jail.

Congratulations Goes Out To Marc and Lorenzo

Spring/Summer Trends 2009 Revisited

I reposting my three post on the trends for the spring and summer here because a lot of the spring/summer clothes are in the stores now. Oh and its 70 degrees outside. YAY!

There are too many spring fashion trends to count. How are you suppose to count all the trends that 100s of designers put each spring? Well you start with what colors stood out. For some reason, the only colors that popped were light grays, pinks, creams, and yellows. Jeans could range anywhere from skinny skinny jeans to wide boyfriend jeans. Spring dresses will be light and airy with lots of ruffles. Also look for oversized accessories from huge purses to huge necklaces. As the spring cool turns into the spring heat, jackets will be de rigueur for anyone who wants to layer a look, especially jackets with a slim fit and cuffed sleeves. Last but not least, structured heels are still a must.

Spring 2009 Fashion Trends by koalaqutie

Like I said before, there are entirely too many trends to count for this coming spring, but as usual, the overachiever in me wants to bring you another Polyvore chock full of trends. Let's recap shall we? There are going to be ruffles, plenty of pastels to go around, tailored jackets, structured shoes, and jeans, jeans, and more jeans. Now I want to tell you about the other trends that are going to be out there in the streets because I know some of you do not like the airy, floaty side of spring. This one is for my rocker, glamour, glitzy chicks. Black and white were also big colors for spring. You are going to want to buy caged heels and sandals. I saw a pair at Bebe that were so cute. A lot of their shoes look strangely similar to some that I know I saw on a few big named designers' runways. *wink wink* Anyway moving on. You also might want to be on the look out for big mini skirts (oxymoron huh), rhinestones, platform shoes, sheer fabrics, satin and silky fabrics, jumpsuits, and unfortnately for the people who will try these and fail miserably, HAREM PANTS!

more spring 2009 trends by koalaqutie

I've got more Spring 2009 fashion tips out there for you. Remember when I said nudes, pastels, blacks, whites, and light, floaty colors were in? Well they still are, but this spring is going to be the spring of contradiction. Bright, bold colors are also in. One-shouldered, body conscious, wrapped (not banded) dresses are in for the spring. If you need a hint, just look at Alexander Wang or Balmain for Spring 2009 to get a hint. You also need to be on the lookout for ripped jeans in all kinds of colors, tints, and dyes. Something that is going to be big is the trend of shopping your own closet or swapping with a friend. That is something smart fashionistas do.

Style Icons

OK! So I told you about Audrey Hepburn, now I want you to know about Catherine Deneuve. I love French films. Always have since before I started learning French last semester. I loved her in "Belle de jour", "The Hunger" and "Les Parapluies de Cherbourg", which is so colorful and brilliant. Please Netflix, Blockbuster, view online, or go the nearest library to check her films out.

To me, she was the anti Jean Seberg, who is also very cool by the way. Don't forget to check out her classic movie "Breathless" where she was the first female to wear a t-shirt in a movie. Jean was the bohemian type French woman with pixie cut hair, striped sailor shirt, and black capris. Catherine is more classic French and always wears the best designer clothes. She modeled for Chanel perfume before Keira Knightley and Nicole Kidman. Catherine used to be Yves Saint-Laurent's muse. He dressed her for the films Belle de jour, La Chamade , La Sirène du Mississipi, and Un flic. She looks best in trench coats and ballet flats. Here is a previous Style Icon post.

I Love Photography!!!

This is another one of my photos. As usual, I am asking for critiques so I can improve my work. I took this for a class assignment. I was downtown and shot these lovely pink flowers last semester for my first photography class. I developed the film myself. Developing film can get tricky. I was lucky I didn't mess anything up. Even though I loved taking that class, it was fun, I feel like because I actually learned photography instead of going with my gut like used messed me up. I feel like when I just used my intuition, my photos were better.

I Feel So Blue

I haven't done a polyvore in a while, but here is one based on my previous post.I hope you enjoy.
Garance's Blue
Garance's Blue - by koalaqutie on Polyvore.com

I'm Blue Daba Dee Daba Die

I was on the lovely Garance Dore's website, and I realized a little trend among her photos. Look at these gorgeous photos. She is an amazing photographer. I don't know if I noticed it because blue is my favorite color, or because as a photographer she may or may not be drawn to certain shades of blue. All photographers are attracted to some kind of element of composition, whether it be color, shape, or whatever, but this was unusual. Maybe I am hip to a new trend? Either way blue is everywhere on her site. I haven't even shown you all of the pictures with this particular shade of blue in it. I love blue. The walls of my room are painted two different shades of blue. Have I caught something that Pantone missed.

You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover

But I'm pretty MAD about this. If you've read my other post from when I had the flu, you know I love French and Sanders and AbFab. This looks so sacrilegious right now. It is going to star Kristen Johnson and Kathryn Hahn .

Read this from Focus on Style. Photo from the same website.

How can you not love the comic genius of Absolutely Fabulous – the British TV show, that is? Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley created two of the most iconic, wacky, yet very real fashionable nut jobs that you swear you must know, or are least the friend of a friend.

Admittedly, I’m not an avid sitcom watcher yet a decade and a half later I can still find myself quoting lines from Ab Fab– fashmagslag that I am!

Well, once again Patsy and Edina (that’s Pats and Eddie for mates) will be recreated as an American TV show.

The Daily Mail gives us a peek at the new duo, pictured left. I’m afraid that from the looks of things “Sweetie, darling” is becoming “Sure ’nuff, sugar,” if you get my drift. The fabulous Lacroix is starting to look a bit more like the thrift basket at Trashy Lingerie. If this is what Pats and Eddie are wearing, what will dear Bubble look like?

Meow, meow, I know. But Absolutely Fabulous is about friendly bitchiness, and this wardrobe really looks like a “no fun zone!”

The American Absolutely Fabulous stars Kristen Johnson and Kathryn Hahn and the production is overseen by the folks who brought us the sitcom that always seems to be playing on my flights, Two-And-A-Half-Men— please, please let them leave Charly Sheen’s camp shirts and skanklets (skanky anklets) behind. Jennifer Saunders is the executive producer, so let’s hope the writing will be brilliant and the characters will maintain their natural zaniness. Fingers, toes, and eye crossed.

I am now a part of the Independent Fashion Bloggers. YAY! Photo from IFB.

I Love Photography!!!

Here is another photograph that I took. I got honorable mention in a local paper with this one. I took it while I lived in NYC in 2007. It is called "Graffiti." Tell me what you think. As a photographer, I am constantly changing as far as my direction and vision goes. Doesn't she kind of look like Rosario Dawson?
Update: I revised my photo. Here is another I Love Photography post

I'm Not Here To Judge But...

doesn't Anja Rubik look way small. I really liked her every since I saw her in those Gap ads. When I saw her picture on JDivision the other day, some of commenters and I noticed a startling change in her appearance. She doesn't look healthy, and that just makes me so sad. I hope she is able to gain her weight back without losing jobs.

Balmain

I really like this two outfits from Balmain. Christophe Decarnin did an excellent job with this year's collection. I am not really surprised. I usually like what he does, but I really love these outfits. I think they are just so hyper cool as my french teacher would say.

Why Did I Do This?

It looks like on every street style website or celebrity website you see people wearing denim jackets. Why did I just give mine to charity last week? I though I wasn't going to wear it again. I guess everything old is new again.
