Forever 21=Faith 21

Forever 21's new plus-sized line comes out on Friday, May 1st. While I like the idea of them having a line, I just wish the line went up to more than just a 3x. I mean there are some stylish plus-sized ladies out there that wear a larger size.
All in all though, the clothes look cute. I am really digging the black floral dress and the blouses. I am pretty excited about the line, and since there isn't a Forever 21 store near by, I will be shopping online on Friday. Yay!

Shoes! OMG Shoes!

I always love the shoes from Go Jane, but I never have the courage to buy them. I can buy clothes online, cameras, books, whatever, but my feet are so weird that I cringe at the thought of buying shoes online. Sometimes I just go ahead and do it because I know a certain store is not in my town. These particular wedges are really cute and very summery. I can see a lot of girls wearing these with some summer dresses. I really love the straps on them and the fact that they are wedges, which makes the shoes comfortable and easy to walk in. The prices aren't that bad either. I might have to get the second pair.

I could so see someone wearing these shoes with this shirred beaded halter maxi dress that comes in purple or mocha for $28.80. All photos from Go Jane.

OM FREAKIN G!

The amazing middle school fashionista Tavi from Style Rookie cut her hair again, and it is fabulous. You should read her blog. She is smart, funny, totally in her own world, and she totally reminds me of myself in middle school. She is much cooler than me though. LOL!

A Questionnaire!

I have been tagged by Journey Through Fashion to do this lovely questionnaire. I hope you learn a lot about me. The rules are to respond and rework: answer the questions on your blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention, add one more question of your own. You also have to tag eight people. I don't have time for that, so I will just tag three. :)
Pretty in Leather
The Fabulous Girl's Guide to Fashion
I am [K]ing Chic

What is your current obsession?
Taking care of my hair like JTF . I need to get back to making it healthy and shiny again.

What is your weirdest obsession?
I really love Hello Kitty. Like I really, really , really love Hello Kitty. I even have a HK waffle maker.

What are you wearing today?
I am wearing some gray pajamas right now as I lounge in bed.

What’s for dinner today?
I had a spicy chicken sandwich from Wendy's.

Why is today special?
It is another day to be alive, and the weather was very beautiful today.

What would you like to learn to do?
I would like to learn to do a lot of things, so I will pick two things from a list of many. I would like to learn French, which I am teaching myself via Rosetta Stone. I would love to learn how to sew without breaking a sewing machine. I have broken 6 of them. Don't laugh.

What’s the last thing you bought?
I bought some water and allergy medicine from a convenience store last night.

What are you listening to right now?
The sound of my macbook and a car passing down the road.

What is your favorite weather?
I like the weather in the Fall and Spring because they are the in between months, so you get the best of both seasons.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
Half-baked by Ben and Jerry's. I love the mixing of brownie's and chocolate chip cookie dough.

What is your most challenging goal right now?
I think that would be losing weight. I have been overweight since I was in the 3rd grade, and I have been trying to lose weight since I was 10. I am 22 now and I am fatter than even ,but I am happy with myself. I want to lose weight because I am tired of being unheatlhy. It is so hard. Every time I lose 20 pounds I gain back 40. I don't want to get diabetes or heart disease, so I am trying to work out several times a week. I am happy to say that I don't get winded as much, and I rarely have asthma attacks anymore. I am glad of that because I can't find my inhaler anyway. LOL!

What do you think about the person who tagged you?
I think she is a really nice person. She comes from the best city in the world, and she is very supportive blogger. I think it is great to have people in your blogging life that share similiar interest with you and support you endeavors.

If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where would you like it to be?
I would love to live in the English countryside because it is so beautiful and green. I also like tudor style houses.

If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go?
London, Paris, or Walmart. I have some things I need to pick up. Walmart gets me everytime.

Which language do you want to learn?
I am trying to learn French, but after I finish French, I would love to move on to Italian.

What do you look for in a friend?
Someone who is trustworthy, honest, nice, funny, and is ok with the fact that I am a little weird, very real/truthful, and a complete dork. Who's counting down the days until the new Star Trek movie? :)

What would you like to have in your hands right now?
I'm not even sure. I guess my college diploma, but I get that next Saturday.

What’s your favorite type of music?
OMG! I love everything from country, bluegrass,rap,hip-hop,world music, r n b, classical, trance, dance, house, whatever. The list goes on for far too long.

What’s the favorite piece of clothing in your own closet?
Usually when I say I have a favorite item, something gets on it like bleach, which is weird because I don't even like bleach. I'm allergic to it.

What is your dream job?
I want to work in the fashion industry. I would love to have my own luxury brand of clothes, hotels, resort, magazines, tv channels, but who knows. I change my mind as I learn about more and more things.

Why did you get into fashion?
My mom and her friends are very stylish ladies. I also used to watch Fashion Television and other fashion oriented shows and movies as a child.

If you had $200 now what would you spend it on?
I would put it in the bank, so I can buy that much needed dslr soon.

Favorite designers?
Marc Jacobs, Karl Largerfeld even though he doesn't like fat people, John Galliano,DVF, Bestsy Johnson, Alexander Wang, Alexander Mcqueen, and others.

Fashion pet peeve?
Do you admire anyone’s style?
Audrey Hepburn, Catherine Deneuve, Jane Birkin,Mom, people who take risks (unless you are like the people in the question above).

Describe your personal style.
I sometimes wear black, gray, and neutrals, but I also like neon colors too. My mom thinks I'm a hipster, but I beg to differ. I just wear whatever I like. I try to be myself and dress for myself only.

What are some of your goals for the future?
I am really just trying to get a job so I can move out of state, and graduate from grad school. I just started a few months ago, so hopefully I will do well.

Bryanboy Is Such A Clown But I Love Him

THE BICENNTENIAL POST

YAY! MY 200TH POST!

If you are like me and have big legs or calf muscles, you probably have a hard time finding boots to fit your legs. You want to wear the cutest boots, but you can't because leg is just too thick . It sucks...A LOT! Now we have choices. Even though I am hate buying shoes online, for obvious reasons,

Here are the three best websites for wide leg boots:
  • Wide Widths-The whole website is dedicated to wide boots. They have international shipping and great styles too.
  • Zappos-Everyone knows about Zappos return and shipping policies so you already know they are great. They also have a great selection of wide leg boots, and you can read customer reviews too. That always helps me with a purchase.
  • Duo Boots I want to buy shoes from here because the quality is amazing, and the shoes are built you your leg measurements.

Photos are from the websites mentioned above.

I Love Photography!!!

This is a photo I took downtown in Five Points, which is a college area. I love it because I love taking photos of alleys. I should probably do my next photo book on alleys. I love this picture because of the different angle I shot it at and the crazy space and proportions going on. The focal point is cool because it looks slightly off center. Comments welcome.

Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day boys and girls! I wanted to tell you about this website I found for my Dynamics of Fashion class last week. We were talking about sustainability in the fashion industry and going green, so I wrote a little piece on Green Loop. I always have a hard time trying to find cute eco-friendly clothes and accessories, but this website compiles all the hottest green fashion brands together. They have Loomstate, Edun,Tom's Shoes, Spun and many more. I was so excited about all of the brands they had. They sell men's and women's clothing, gifts, accessories, and shoes. The only thing I wished they sold were kid's clothing and other green items for children. All in all Green Loop. is a really good website that I think you all should check out whether you are in to going green or not.

The Curvy Fashionista has the scoop on the May issue of Australia's Harper's Bazaar. The mag just so happens to have an editorial with one of my favorite plus sized models, Crystal Renn. I remember the first time I saw her. It made me feel like she's big, I'm big, and we are both beautiful. Haters are gonna hate. If she can be confident in her body and herself, then so can I. To see the rest of the photos, go to The Curvy Fashionista or buy a copy of the new Australian Harper's Bazaar.

From modelinia.com:

Two for the price of one!

Daria Werbowy is heating this May cover up!

Also Carmen Kass is on a May cover too! I love her. I can't believe she took a break from her 2000th Michael Kors' ad campaign to grace on a cover.

Words Of Wisdom

I went shopping with my bestie the other and we saw this scarf with what looked like Sanskrit on it. It really got me thinking about ethnic clothing and the do's and don'ts of ethnic clothes.

Do's
  • Tie dye is okay for anyone because it is an American staple.
  • Ikat is okay for anyone because it is a plain Asian pattern that has meaning but does not offend anyone.
  • The same goes for African patterns like Kente cloth and Latin American patterns. Yes, you can wear the poncho mom got you from that Baja Mexico gift shop. Sometimes these types of fabrics are given to foriegners as gifts or tokens of appreciation by certain tribes.

Don'ts- you better pay attention or you risk getting jumped on the street
  • Don't wear ethnic tattoos or any tattoos that aren't in your native language. The tattoo artist "thinks" he knows Chinese. If you have "hot dog" written in Hebrew on the back of your neck, I will laugh. Which leads me to my next point. . .
  • Don't wear clothes with foreign languages on them. That scarf from Macy's is supposed to have nice loving words on it, but you don't even know what it really says. My textile teacher used to work for a certain big name designer. He got the lesson of lifetime when he put some foreign words on some clothes. Not only did they have to pay a fine and take tolerance classes, but they had to recall all of the clothes and got the verbal beating of his life from said big name designer all because he didn't know what the words said.
  • Don't wear anything Native American like unless it is fringe, beads, moccasins, or Southwestern topaz and turquoise jewelry. Headdresses and shirts with Native American images and images of Native American clothing on them are a no-no. Don't even dress up like a Native American. Every year some musical act wears an Indian costume and gets chewed out in the media by Native American activists.
  • Never wear a keffiyeh. Ever! I know they are trendy to wear, and are actually quite cute ,but they symbolize too many things in the Middle East. In some areas, they are a sign of certain terrorists, and in others they are a sign of peace. The subject is so touchy that they banned a Dunkin Donut commercial featuring Rachel Ray because she had one on, and pro-Isreal activists complained so much that Urban Outfitters had to remove them from their stores last summer.
The best advice I can give you is to stick to what you know. If you don't know where it came from or what it says, leave it be.

Glad I'm Not The Only One

Who felt this way. Racked NY and I are on the same page here.

From Racked NY:

The Outnet, e-tailer Net-a-Porter's answer to Yoox, bowed today. The site's filled with merchandise from designers like Philip Lim, Rick Owens, Marc Jacobs and Anna Sui at 30 to 60% off (which, mind you, is still pricey). There are bag, shoe, clothing and accessories sections, and a page called "Dress Me" where shoppers pick from categories like "Chic Essentials: Stylish Denim" and "Wear This Forever: Iconic Dresses" and are redirected to another page showing an assortment of those items. They're also taking inspiration from sample sale sites like Gilt, and planning some "Flash Sales", aka 72 hour online super sales. The first one, a spring dress sale, is happening in 8 days, 2 hours, 49 minutes and 30 or so seconds. Yes—there's a countdown clock.

The Outnet Is Live!!!!!

I just got the email today that let me know that Net-a-Porter's The Outnet went live today. They have designer pieces up to 60% off. Even with the 60% though it still isn't enough for me. Many items are still in the thousand dollar range, but a good many items aren't. Shoes and accessories are the cheapest items on the site.

They also have things called Flash Sales. They have a sale called Going Going Gone, where you wait to pay the lowest price for that item as the clock winds down. If you buy the item too early you could miss out on the low price. If you wait too long, the item might be sold out. They also have 72 hour pop up sales that kind of remind me of the sample sale websites. They will also have Giveaways where you can get free designer items. YAY! Jai loves free items. Who doesn't?

The thing I love the best is the Dress Me page where you can shop by occasion, trend, time period, etc. It is kind of like Forever 21's shop by outfit feature. The Outnet calls it their "Instant Outfit Solution."

I Love Photography!!!

I'm bringing back the I Love Photography posts. The first picture was taken at Grand Central Station the last week I lived in New York City, and the second picture was taken down the street from Macy's. I looked up and saw this sky walk. I really want to go back and take some more pictures of it. As usual, I am asking for a critique so I can improve my photography skills. Here is a link to a previous I Love Photography post.

US Vogue May 2009 The Model Issue

I am really digging the cover, especially because it is the 3rd month in a row that US Vogue has featured a black woman on the cover. I am loving this new trend in fashion, diversity. The cover features older models Liya Kebede and Natalia Vodianova and the newcomers or slightly older yet still considered newcomers Anna Jagodzinsk,Isabeli Fontana, Jourdan Dunn, Raquel Zimmermann, Lara Stone, Caroline Trentini and Natasha Poly. I am looking forward to buying this issue on newsstands. I stopped subscribing to US Vogue because they got real boring to me. Hopefully this one is a winner. Bryanboy says this issue is supposed to have some neat articles in it.Photos from Bryanboy.

NEWS FLASH!!!

I really must have been gone from the world for far too long because I just found out that Lindsay Lohan dyed her hair red again. Hopefully she will do a Britney and turn herself around. I miss the old Lindsay. Now all she has to do is gain some weight. Her hand is looking like a skeleton's hand. Photo from OMG!

UPDATE!!!! Finally Time To Rest

I am pretty tired. I just finished spending a long amount of time bringing some new initiates into my sorority. This is the second time I have helped with the intake process. Now that this is over, I am going to rest. I am going to be off for a little bit. I may resume blogging duties tomorrow or so.

Congrats Spring 2009! After a long hard journey, you 18 wonderful women can now call me Soror. I am so proud of everything, even though it felt like this took forever.

UPDATE: Mom told me that she could tell I was sleepy by all of the grammatical errors I had written last night. Then when I went back to reread this post, I was like Dang! I even left out sentences. Moral of the story, don't post when you are dead tired. Blogging can wait.

Topshop Shoes Are More Than Amazing

I really like these shoes. I think this is what they call shoe lust. They make my heart sing "AHHHHHHHHHHHH!" I really need to get myself to NYC. I mean I could buy shoes off of the website, but I want to go to the store and try them on. Photos are obviously from topshop.

Some People Go Too Far For Fame

Found on bryanboy.

Chester French's Mixtape Is Fire

One of the things I like about my blog is that even though it is mostly about fashion, it is also about whatever I choose to talk about. I just downloaded the free Chester French mixtape "Clinton Sparks Presents: Jacques Jams Vol. 1 Endurance." It is so good. these guys are so amazing and so talented. They are also very hilarious in a cheeky, frat boy type of way. Some of the hottest artist in the industry are on this mixtape. they have Lady Gaga, Solange Knowles, Janelle Monae, Common, Pharrell Williams, and more! Please go check it out! P.S. I am totally not ashamed to say that "Nerd Girl" could totally have been written for me.

OMG! Part Deux...

I love June Ambrose. I follow her on twitter everyday like a crazed stalker because she is so chic, stylish, smart, and funny. She is a celebrity stylist who writes books and styles for magazines and television. She is best known as the women who made hip hop stylish in the late 90s by working with Mary J. Blige and P. Diddy. She was the one who came up with the shiny suit in that Diddy/Mase video. Minor lapse in judgment, but we forgive her. Who doesn't have a minor lapse in judgment from time to time?

On twitter, she is always talking about her interns, her day, or she is showing you twitpics of clothes, street fashion, events, shoes, and accessories. Now every Friday she does what she calls Twittfit. Her new Stilleto Workout video series is bound to be fun. I just watched the first video, and I am so going to do the workout when I have the time. I need to get tight and right for the summer. Follow her on twitter here.

Here is the first Stiletto Workout with June Ambrose:

OMG!

I don't know if you have been watching these videos on Modelinia.com, but they are a funny way to get up close to your favorite models. I thought the superhero videos with Heidi Klum and Coca Rocha were hilarious, but then I started watching these videos on walking in heels with Anastassia Khozzisova. She is one crazy lady. She teaches these two young models how to walk in heels down the runway, and her lessons involve balance beams, wind machines, embarrassment (lol), and Simon Doonan. These videos are so worth watching.

Here is High Heel Boot Camp Episode 1

Springtime Is Here

The weather is so nice today. I can't believe it is basically a week until Easter. I can't wait until Lent is over, so I can have some sweets, sugar, soft drinks, and other sweet treats. I am totally in love with Derek Lam's Spring 2009 Ready to Wear collection. It is so fresh and beautiful just like today's weather. the weather is supposed to be cold again tomorrow, so I need to enjoy this day the best way I can ... by looking at fashion. Photos from style.com.

I Want To Move

Today I told my dad that I want to move. He has known for a while that I am ready to fly the coop, but I think it didn't hit him until now. He tells people that he is going build a second part onto the back of the house for me and my husband when we get married. That ain't happening.

The recession is hurting the job market, but I have started looking for jobs again anyway. I want to move to Charlotte, Atlanta, or New York. I want to get a job in fashion, but I don't want to move too far a way too soon because I think that might make my parents nervous.

Living in New York City for a summer is one thing, but moving there for an extended stay is another thing. I would love to move there, but I see the doubt in my dad's eyes. I think he would be sad if I left. Oh well I got to leave sometime. LOL!

I started graduate school already, and I officially graduate from college in May. I need to get cracking. I always feel like time is running out.

These are some of the pictures I am gathering for my first apartment's inspiration board. I think they are fun, girly, chic, sophisticated, and so me. I hope you enjoy them.
