The Fat and Skinny Steals and Deals

Before I go into the steals and deals, I wanted to let you all know that I am now a Wishpot Fashion Expert and a Shop It To Me Trendsetter!

Wishpot is great because you can make a wish list based on the things you want to buy or buy for other people. It is also a great resource for people getting married or having babies because they have a wedding and baby registry section. They list toys, clothes, accessories, tech gadgets, and so much more. You should definitely check this out if you are looking for new items to add to your wardrobe, or to help you pick out that special gift for any holiday.

Shop It To Me is also a great site because the SaleMail emails are specifically tailored to you. When you sign up, you fill out a quick 5 min survey that lets you pick your favorite brands, types of clothing you want to buy,and the size of all articles of clothing. What impressed me was the fact that you can chose between mens, womens, boys, and girls' clothing. They also have plus sizes, maternity sizes, petite sizes, and regular sizes. After that you get to pick which day you want to you want the emails to come to your inbox, ...... and TA-DA what seems like bunches and bunches of clothes that are ON SALE are placed in that one email. IF you really want a steal and a deal on clothes in your size, this is the site for you.

Thank You Ondo Lady!

Last week I did a post called What Is Your Favorite Super Memory? I want to thank all of the readers who commented on that post. I think it is great to look back at a time when fashion was fun, even fanciful. Fashion today is kind of dark and business like. It is basically more about the bottom line instead of art, but I think the girls of Rodarte, Alexander Wang, and others are changing things again. Models are becoming popular again too. Hopefully they don't overshadow the designers like last time and bring us back into the dark ages. BLAH!

Enough of my rant. What I wanted to say was... thanks Ondo Lady, from The Musings of Ondo Lady, for spurring my memory with this comment:
My favorite memory of the supermodels was at the Versace show when Naomi, Cindy, Linda and Christy came down the runway miming to the George Michael song, Freedom. Now that was a moment and I doubt if we will see anything like that again.
How could I forget? Well I found a video clip of that exact moment. The video is about 9 mins of awesome fashion moments. Watch all of it to see how the models used to walk a show, or skip all the way to the 6:09 mark and behold the day that most people say the Super was born.

I recently did a guest blogging post for the Demoiselles on body image. The post is scheduled to go up today. Please check it out. I wrote from the heart, and I think their body image series is a great read for everyone.

Stop The Presses.....

From the Imagist:

Looks like NYC has a new destination this summer...C'est Beast where last Thursday all the glossy kids ( from Nicola Formachetti to Mario Testino to Sonny Groo to Stefano ) partied till the break of dawn. Keep it cute ! ...In other news TI picked up the hot hiss this weekend that US Vogue is quietly getting a revamp in light of the on-going ad slump. Think a new circle of models, an influx of fresh, young photographers and a desire for "unpredictability" in the stories. Well it is THE biggest brand in the business no?

P.S. Don't you just love this cover? I think one of the things American Vogue should do is bring back the model cover instead of the movie star cover. I love movie stars, but I would much rather see them on the cover less. I mean come on guys, a fashion mag should have fashion models. DUH!

Jourdan Dunn Is Preggers!!!!!

From the Cut:

Vogue just posted a blog item with this headline: "Expecting In Style: What The Pregnant Jourdan Should Wear This Fall." And that is how they announced to the world the 19-year-old Dunn, who won Best Model at last year's British Fashion Awards, is pregnant. Not just pregnant, but four months along pregnant (she's due in December). Of course, when Vogue announces this news, they use it not as a platform for a discussion of society's attitude toward or the pitfalls inherent in teen pregnancy, but an outlet for Vogue market editor Meredith Melling-Burke to pick out designer maternity clothes for her, yay! (She does the same for allegedly pregnant model Gisele and confirmed pregnant model Karolina Kurkova). It's unclear who the father of Dunn's child is. She should have plenty of money to take care of a kid after the impressive career she's had so far. Sadly, she'll probably be absent from Fashion Week in September. Tyra Banks better book Dunn for her talk show. Oprah would be better, but we'll take what we can get.

Expecting In Style: What The Pregnant Jourdan Should Wear This Fall [Vogue.com via Fashion Bomb]

Is this really the way she wanted her pregnancy announcement to come out, in a pregnancy style post from Vogue? Really.....Really????? And what is up with all the pregnant models. Something must be in the modeling agency's water. Comment amongst yourselves.

What Is Your Fondest Super Memory?

vogue supermodels

Can you remember the first time you heard about/or saw the Supers? Do you remember all of their names? Who was your favorite and why? Do you mourn the loss of the supermodel, or do you think the newest batch of models are supermodels? If so, who? Is Giselle a supermodel? I would love to see your comments.

You all know I love the Supers something fierce, so imagine my surprise when I saw that Vogue had opened up their archives to release some photos of the Supers. These shot are beyond amazing, and most of them are very iconic and recognizable. Take a quick peek at these photographic gems.

And don't forget to check out the shoot with Eva, Naomi, and Claudia in the August 2009 issue of Vogue Korea. Hot!

Couture With A Conscience

I love shopping. DUH! I also happen to like companies that do great things for the less fortunate as well. I am so glad I found out about this company on Twitter. Check this out!

From the Shabby Apple website: For many women in the developing world, life is a constant struggle against poverty and hardship. Limited economic opportunity leads to a downward cycle of malnutrition, illiteracy and poor health - a cycle that traps each new generation. Through access to microfinance - financial services such as microcredit loans, insurance, savings and other products - women can overcome poverty and provide a better life for their children. Shabby Apple wants to help. With your help, we hope to provide 500 women with micro-credit loans by December 31 of this year. There are two ways to contribute.
  1. Buy a dress from Shabby Apple. Shabby Apple donates 5% of all its net profits to Unitus. Every time you order something from Shabby Apple, part of this order funds a micro-credit loan.
  2. Donate an extra $5 at the checkout page. When checking out, scroll down and click on the ‘help women worldwide’ button. This donation will directly contribute to a micro-credit loan.
To learn more, click here. Double your effect: Enter the Code couture to receive $5 off of any order. Shabby Apple will double its donation for every couture coupon used. Share this coupon with friends: here

I am totally in love with this concept. I think its fabulous, and not only do they make beautiful dresses for straight and junior sizes, but they make plus sizes and maternity clothes as well. Shabby Apple is also developing a fitness line. Most of the clothes are under $100. They are just expanding and giving back at the same time. I love it. Take a look at some of Shabby Apple's cutest looks.

Brogues It Down Now...

Rupert Sanderson shoes
Sienna Miller in Rupert Sanderson Shoes
I know brogues have been in style for a few seasons now, but I am finally getting into the trend. I always thought they were cute, but probably wouldn't look right on me. Here is a picture of Sienna Miller wearing the Rupert Sanderson "Joyce" brogues with jeans and a long cardi. The shoes cost £345.00 which is about $563.69. Photos from Rupert Sanderson

I saw these two dresses on the Urban Outfitters' website, and thought they would be perfect for these shoes. Everybody wants to wear heels with dresses, which is ok, but I think you can slide in some flatwear every now and then. Photos from Urban Outfitters.

I hope you all like the changes. I am working hard the make my blog as aesthetically pleasing as possible, so expect more changes.

Hey All I'm Taking Nominations!

Hello everyone! I am asking for nominations to the Black Weblog Awards. The nomination process ends on the 25th and the real voting starts on Aug. 1st if I make it. Please tell your friends, and whoever else you want to tell. Thank you so much.

OHHH MMMM GEEEEE!

From Refinery 29:

Last year around this time, Vogue Italia impressed us on several levels with its "Black Issue, an edition of the vaunted mag featuring only beauties of African decent like Liya Kebede, Jourdan Dunn, and, of course, Naomi Campbell. As forceful and gorgeous a statement as that was, it might have to take a backseat to a new supplement stuffed into the latest issue of Italian Vogue—a mini-magazine that replicates the "Black Issue" with Barbies!!! Editrix Franca Sozzani has topped herself again. We mean, it would have been enough if it were just an issue showcasing Babs on the 50th anniversary of her creation, no matter the color of the dolls in question. But posing the "So In Style" models, which display more natural-looking black features, in pools, curled seductively on kinky couches, and flirty lingerie? Brava Signora Sozzani!

I Love Photography!

My dad planted a plant in our yard that he didn't know much about. Well.....this plant sprouted flowers. We are calling this the "Alien Flower" because the flower sprouts out of some weird pod thing. Anyway I hope you enjoy the flowers. If you know what kind of plant this is, let me know. Thanks!

I Love Photography!

So I finally got a chance to take some pictures with my Nikon D60. I can't wait to show you some of my new shots. I have shots of flowers, a park, and shots of buildings. In the meantime, I have some more shots of New York City that I want to show you. I took these when I lived there two years ago. I can't wait until August. Mom and I are planning a trip to NYC. Hopefully we make it there so I can take shots with my new camera.

Bad Bish

This a beautiful photo of African American silver screen goddess Dorothy Dandridge. Please go watch her movie Carmen Jones with Harry Belafonte. The photo is from a great blog called My Vintage Vogue. She really has the best vintage Vogue scans. Please heck it out.

P.S. The reason it is taking me so long to comment back to you on different blogs is b/c summer school is kicking my butt! Hopefully I will be back to normal come August 5th!

Fall 2009 Haute Couture Season

Fall 2009 Haute Couture Season has come and gone. It was so quick, but what do you expect when you only have 9 couture designers. I was very impressed with all the collections this season. Usually I find something or another that does not suit my eye, but I was surprised by the looks. On a sad note, this fall's Christian Lacroix collection may be his last because his company filed for bankruptcy. They are trying to restruture it, but I read on one website, the other day, that they basically fired most if not all of the staff. :( Since I liked all of the collections. I have decided to show you what I feel are the 3 best looks from each collection.

Topshop Fall Preview

From Xiyin Tang from Refinery 29:

Count on Topshop to instantly take to the big runway trends like viruses to their host cells, if you will. Regardless, if you're looking for Balmain's sequined minidresses, Dolce's big, shaggy "fur" coats, Rodarte's shredded knits, and, of course, those stellar thigh-high boots (somehow looks suspiciously amazing on the model...but we won't believe it 'til we see it in person!) at decent prices, Topshop will be your mecca this fall. The lookbook even has a little homage to New York with a section called "Manhattan Cocktail," which is a hodge-podge of going-out looks. Meanwhile, the "Highland Fling" section features that kind of rugged, bundled-up cool Opening Ceremony also copped in their fall lookbook. We also notice another Edie Sedgwick revival in the leopard-print, brocade minidresses, and seriously-lined eyes. But then again, when isn't there one of those?

Topshop Fall PreviewTopshop Fall PreviewTopshop Fall PreviewOK SO I AM TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH THIS COLLECTION. I CAN'T DECIDE ON WHETHER I LIKE THIS COLLECTION OR THE H&M FALL COLLECTION MORE. I'LL TELL YOU WHAT, I SURE LOVE THOSE TOPSHOP SHOES. YUMMY!

Beth Ditto For Evans and The Alloy Fall Preview

Beth Ditto For Evans
The Beth Ditto For Evans collection went online today. Some of the clothes really look cute. I had planned on buying at least one item, but I couldn't really find anything to tickle my fancy except this motorcycle jacket. It is really hot, but I already have two motorcycle jackets. One looks like a bomber jacket, and the other one actually looks more like a motorcycle jacket. I decided to pass.
Alloy Catalog Fall PreviewAlloy Catalog Fall Preview
I am in love with the new Alloy catalog. They just mailed their fall preview and it is hot. They have some very cute clothes that are very spot on as far as trends are concerned. They also have new brands like DKNY Jeans, Divine Rights of Denim, See Thru Soul, and Silver Jeans. I am thinking of buying these camel colored heels and this military jacket. Alloy's accessories are also on point. The belts are so cute and the leopard print purse is adorable. As always, Alloy has extended sizes for my fellow Big Gurl's Club members.
