This Is It.....

I have no idea when I am going to see this but it comes out today.

UPDATE: I totally saw this movie today after my eye appointment and I LOVED IT!!! It was so good. MJ's clothes barely fit him so I was a little scared, but he was singing live and dancing with the backup dancers just like he was 10 years ago. He even showed everybody a few things. It was amazing. the last number really pulled at my heart. He also wore a lot of Balmain, and I want his high water gold sequin pants.

Three things I learned from the movie:
  1. Ed Hardy will always look bad no matter who wears it.
  2. Kenny or Kerry Ortega, whoever the director was, wears pearl bracelets and questionable shoes.
  3. Pole Dancing Specialist=Stripper

Makeup Looks For A Party

mI was trying some eye makeup looks for an 80s party in December. I think I like all of them except the green one. I think it needed more gold than green. I think I like the pink one the most.

Yippe Skippee

From NBC New York's The Thread:

It's been confirmed that Gaultier will be the newest Designer Collaboration with big box Target, releasing an exclusive lower priced collection to a limited number of 250 stores and online March 7, 2010.

Bringing truth to the whole in-like-a-lion thing, Gaultier's March collection for Target, as a Designer Collaboration - which is different than the Go International program, which always confuses us, too - is set to "celebrate the American woman" and her ties to pop culture, as in, Madonna's iconic 80s look as produced by Gaultier himself.

As we know, Gaultier is the man who pushed the envelope on the runway and has pioneered the overt sexuality of high fashion. What that means for Target as a mass retailer, we're just dying to find out.

Teen Vogue Featuring Chanel Iman and Jourdan Dunn

*Blogger stop sending out posts that haven't been posted yet! URGH!*

Anyway I went to the store and picked up the new Teen Vogue with Chanel Iman and Jourdan Dunn on the cover. It promised to tell their readers how they can get a job in fashion, but all I saw were the same tips their readers can get from the high school career center, guidance counselor, or Google. HMM. Whatever! I think this issue would have been more beneficial to high schoolers if it elaborated more on where to look for an internship or get into a fashion school if you didn't live anywhere near a fashion capitol. I could have used that advice when I was in grade school.

The most important part of the magazine, which was really small by the way :(, was the cover featuring two black models and their interview. This made me extremely happy because growing up I saw black faces on fashion magazines but it was rare, and nowadays it is worse. It makes me sad when I can't see my own people or other minorities for that matter represented in fashion.

I think it is great to see these two young women on the cover of a magazine like this, and I wish more would follow suit. I hate how designers and casting directors look at my skin as a trend. Remember this from earlier in the week. I have always been and will always be black. I can't change that, nor do I want to. I spend money on the same products, clothes, and accessories that are worn, advertised, and written about in those magazines. My skin color is not like an alligator bag or leopard print shoe. Black, brown, or cream colored skin is not the trend of the season.

Rupert Sanderson and The Kaiser

Press Release From Rupert Sanderson:

RUPERT SANDERSON FOR KARL LAGERFELD SPRING / SUMMER 2010
Rupert Sanderson is proud to announce his collaboration for the second season running with fashion maestro, Karl Lagerfeld.
After the massive success Rupert had with the Autumn/Winter 2009 collection for Mr. Lagerfeld, Rupert welcomed the chance to work with Karl again.
This season, Rupert completely re-interpreted two of his best selling styles Asteroid and Finesse.
To give the shoe the futuristic update that Lagerfeld wanted for his collection, Rupert decided to design the shoe with his fashion-forward geometric heel, inspired by the Italian architect Gio Ponti. The ankle straps have also been altered so that they loop around under the sole and are bolted in place, giving the shoe a highly dominatrix feel. This also allows each top part of the shoe to be interchanged.
Created in a range of colours and materials from soft ice-white suede, to metallic mirror silver leather, the shoes completed Lagerfeld’s ‘futuristic rock goddess’ collection perfectly, especially with Mondino's classic shot of skinny Karl as guitar hero cleverly spray-stenciled on the front of the shoes.
Please contact Alexandra Kotsias in the Rupert Sanderson press office for further information and samples. All made to order.

French Vogue's Faux Pas

Um I realize that in some pictures Lara Stone has white paint on her skin, but BLACK FACE is a no-no. White actors used to paint their faces and make derogatory jokes about black people.
Watch this.

I Kinda Want These But....

They are basically $200. I love Jeffrey Campbell. He is like the new Steve Madden. Speaking of Steven Madden, he is getting sued by Alexander McQueen for stealing a show design. Photo From Shop Nasty Gal.

Paris Spring Fashion Week Post 5

I am always intrigued by the Chanel's show set design, and every year I wonder what is it going to look like and how that relates to the clothes. Imagine my surprise when I heard that there was hay on the floor, some huge barn like structure in the middle of the floor, and there was a big pile of hay with openings on the side. Crazy! The Kaiser seems to me to have spent way too much time in Vermont. The collection was full of kissing models, Victorian looking minidresses, and clogs. The linen pants had no shape and just looked more wrinkled than they should have been. Overall the collection gets a collective meh from me. I get that you have to keep the Chanel aesthetic looking the same without getting boring,but....I don't know. It wasn't bad or good.

Hermes was another runway show filled with theatrics. Models were apparently playing tennis on the runway, and people on twitter were totes geeked out by all the major models from different nationalities being represented in the show. Who doesn't love a little diversity? The show was great because it was based on the sport of tennis, which is why the models were playing tennis. Jean Paul Gaultier created some of the coolest tennis skirts and kilts. The jackets had cool, crisps lines and the tennis sweaters were big enough to wear on a cool Spring night and also in the fall. The belts and bags were amazing. Peta will be pissed at the use of suede, leather, and Hermes' own specialty bred croc skins. I really liked this collection. I thought it was fresh and absolutely needed for Spring.

Is This What Fashion Heaven Looks Like?

You can watch the whole show here. Discuss...

Paris Spring Fashion Week Post 4

Requiem was a pretty solid collection of 17 pieces. This was another one of the chic Parisian ladylike collections with all dresses and skirts. No pants allowed! The fabrics were great except for the construction on few pieces seemed stiff and a little puckered. Maybe it was the way the model was standing. I don't know, but I could definitely see some of the pieces on the modern woman.

This is one of my favorite Stella McCartney collections in a long time. They colors reminded me of the Tropics. I really like the blue/brown combination. The fabrics, the patterns on the fabrics, and the ruffles were amazing. Silk! Silk! Silk! The whole collection was very flirty and fun.

Viktor and Rolf was one big OHHHH EMMMM GEEEE moment for me with every piece they put out. It really was a collection of ruffles. They were everywhere. I saw ruffles on the pants, ruffles on the skirts, ruffles on the jackets. Then they had this huge dresses and jackets that had holes and shapes cut out of the ruffles. Viktor and Rolf's construction and genius never cease to amaze me because they are just extremely well done. I don't know who is going to wear these pieces but they all look crazy good.

Paris Spring Fashion Week Post 3

Karl Lagerfeld's show was full of black, with few colors thrown in. Surprise Surprise! The main color were black ad white, with some silver and apricot thrown in. I was surprised that the bulk of his show had shorts, shorts, shorts, and even shorter mini dresses. There were flat shorts and pleated shorts and shorts that appeared to be made from leather. I guess Uncle Karl wants everyone to bear their legs this coming spring.

Lanvin was an exceptional show. Alber Elbaz really knows how to dress a woman. While I thought the makeup and hair was more than a little harsh, the clothes totally made up for that. This collection was full of hot dresses and dress suits with peplum swirling around the hips. I also like the color scheme of the show. There were you blacks and neutrals, but there were also reds, and blues, and yellows that popped. The jumpsuits were very ladylike and chic. I also like how Elbaz included the big billowy sleeves without making them look cliche. The shoes were gorgeous and very high. The last few dresses in the collection were great because the mixing of patterns and fabrics with the draping was just out of this world.

Dior carried the theme from the house's last couture show into the spring ready to wear show. All of the models were dressed up as glamorous 1940s movie starlets with long wavy hair and shiny platform shoes with socks. The wore long flowing gowns or short jackets and trench coats with exposed slip dresses or camisole tops. Galliano also made dresses out of lace, lame, busitiers, and tulle. It was a very classic collection.

Paris Spring Fashion Week Post 2

I really loved the Balenciaga show because the clothes didn't look boxy and linebackerish. The colors were great. They were layered on the fabrics in blocks. Then there was a blending of rough and smooth textures and shapes. It was a good show. I wish I was there.

Bruno Pieters is a Belgian designer whose collection was full of the most amazing draping I have ever seen. The collection consisted of the colors nude, white, and black. He had sheer pants and bodcon dresses. The one piece I loved the most was the shorts aka blown up bloomers.

Martin Grant's collection was very beautiful and very chic. It actually reminds me of the things I had to design for class. He had jumpsuits, one shoulder dresses, and jodhpurs. You cant go wrong with jodhpurs in my book. I also like the tiny buttons on the sides of some of the garments. That was a neat touch.
