I used Looklet to come up with some party outfit ideas for New Years Eve. I hope you like them. I also hope that if you decide to go out and be crazy, please do so responsibly. Also, thanks everyone who tweeted and commented words of encouragement to me for my post yesterday. You all really helped me feel much better.

Kinda NSFW ---LOVE

If you haven't seen this by now, this is the Lanvin Men advertisement featuring the famed fashion photographers Inez and Vinoodh. Before you get all crazy on me, the last photo is a remake of another I&V photograph called "Me Kissing Vinoodh (Passionately)" . I think the photographers are beautiful and breathtaking. The thing that makes these photographs so real is that they are actually married. You can see the passion in their love.

I want to find a love like that. I want to find someone who I can work with on a daily basis, communicate creatively, and just be so passionately into each other that it shows without being super cheesy. I've never been in a relationship, and even though I know I am really young, I turn 23 on the 22nd of January, I feel like there is a part of me missing out of a lil piece of life. I go on facebook, basically everyday, and see all of my friends getting married, engaged, pregnant, having babies, and finding new relationships.

Even though I am happy for my friends, it still bites. With every couple's photograph or new wedding album, my heart breaks a little bit each time. I go places and my parent's friends always ask me if I have a boyfriend because " You are so beautiful" or "You are so pretty and smart." I hate to tell them no, or I'm still boyfriend-less, but its true. Then I see these articles and video clips about the lack of Black men, or how hard it is for a Black women to find love and I just feel worse.

I guess what started out as a fashion post has really turned into something more, but I just don't know how to express, explain, or even try to understand what I must be doing wrong. I think this is one of my most personal and extremely real posts. I hope you don't mind it, but I just needed to vent.

So It's True

Tyra Banks announced on Twitter yesterday that her talk show is ending after the 5th season, which I think is weird since it just moved to the CW network. I have a love/hate relationship with Tyra. I am happy for all of the things that she has achieved, but I feel like she can seem somewhat phoney and fake at times.

According to People Magazine:

“This will be the last season of The Tyra Show,” Banks tells PEOPLE exclusively. “I’ve been loving having fun, coming into your living rooms, bedrooms, hair salons for the past 5 years.”

Wrapping at the end of its fifth season in the spring of 2010, it will be lights out for the show that brought viewers memorable weave-exposing, cellulite-revealing and tear-jerking moments.

Banks will focus on the launch of Bankable Studios, a N.Y.-based film production company currently reviewing possible projects. Sticking to her mission, Banks aims to bring “positive images of women to the big screen,” says an industry insider.

You can catch the rest of the article here.

What Did You Get?

What was the best thing you received for Christmas/Hanukkah? My best friend, Karma, stood in line for 3 hours to get me an autographed copy of The Sartorialist book. That was an AWESOME present!

I'm Not Really Into Sex and The City but...

I'm sure you are. Now don't get me wrong. I love the styling of Patricia Fields and the fact that Kristin Davis is from my hometown, but that is it. I could never get into the story lines and plots. Anywho, here is the first video clip/trailer for the movie.

Remember The Time...

I told you guys about the V magazine issue with plus size models in this post. Well.... we have a little sneak peak here.

They show two models of different builds but similiar looks. In this case you have Jacquelyn Jablonski: 5 ft, 9 in; 32/24/34 and Crystal Renn: 5 ft, 9 in; 36/31/41. They put them in the same clothes with the same styling and hair. Then they told them to do similar poses for photographer Terry Richardson. At first I wasn't to keen on the idea of doing a skinny vs. not so skinny shoot, but I must say Crystal Renn fills the clothes out nicely. I really would like to see more of that on the runway. Not to say that skinny models should be banned all together now. I realize that people come in all shapes and sizes, therefore there should be a mix of sizes in stores and on the runway.

Photos from The Cut.

DIY / Answers

Before I get into the post someone asked me if I design and if I knew of any plus size designers. Well I just started dabbling in design this year. My flats aren't great, but I try to practice from time to time. You can view some of my flats here. As far as plus size designers are concerned, Marie Denee at The Curvy Fashionista has a really good, no GREAT post on the plus size industry that I think everyone should read, including straight sized people. It breaks the industry down into categories and then list the designers and stores that fit under that category. I couldn't write a better article or explanation, so check it out here.

Soooooo I found this website called PS I Made You a while ago, and it is TRESMAZING! It seems like they have great DIYs that totally make sense to someone like me who loves crafts but usually screws them up. This necklace would make a great Christmas present for someone. I can't wait to try it out.

From PS I Made You:

Baubles ‘N Bubbles. They breathe a lightness and lend themselves to beautiful sphere shapes, which are perfect in the most imperfect way. Their translucent white and clear crystal hues are deliciously delicate. Mmmmmm how I love, thee!

An easy and unexpected way to create your own version of this look is with tape! I love the selection at Staples! I found mini-packing tapes which I strung on pretty black chiffon ribbon with Hex nuts in between. Knot a few on the ends for a more stylized-finished look, and you’re ready to sport your translucent-esque treasure!

Experiment with different size tapes and colored ribbons!

Have fun!

Such A Sad Sad Day

Twitter has been a buzz with this sad news and now I just found out from someone that Ben Sherman is shutting down their women's line to focus on the men's line. I need this recession to be over now!

From Fashionista.com:

We’d rather have a slow news day any time than get bad news like this—Phi is closing due to economic hardship, according to WWD.

There aren’t many details yet, but sadly we all know too well what this recession has done to our industry. Employees were given the news today and the pre-Spring collection that just arrived in stores will be the last. The Soho store is expected to shutter its doors by the end of the month. CEO Julia Hansen said, “It’s a really challenging climate right now for luxury goods. There is not so much confidence in that market going forward.” Ugh.

Phi was founded in 2003 by Susan Dell and fast became an industry favorite under the creative direction of Andreas Melbostad, known for his impeccable construction and body-con dresses. The show in September brought in a front row of fans like Carine, Lauren Santo Domingo, the Trainas, Kate Lanphear and Erin Wasson.

We can only assume they’re currently as devastated as we are.

Should I Be Shocked....

Photo from The Coveted.

This collaboration between Target and Rodarte was so hyped up it was crazy. They even had a video featuring Tavi and other fashion insiders praising the collection. The pictures were styled so beautifully, but I walked into my store yesterday and was shocked that our store decided to carry it and shocked that it was made so poorly. Before you say "it's Target", other designer collab collection production seemed much better than I thought it would be for many of the other collections. I know people, including myself, who still wear items from four years ago. This collection while cute in theory will probably not last four years if you wore it out once a year and washed it in baby detergent. Sorry to say that, but I was sorely disappointed. Don't let my critique scare you off. Go check it out and see if your store hasn't sold out of certain pieces. I have already heard tales of pieces being sold out. I know my store didn't have some items and it was picked over.

She's Going Places

Like most models, you start working for a few years, and then maybe, just maybe you get your big break. Lara Stone is one of those models. After being in the business for a few years, she is finally getting her big break. I have to say that 2009 really was her year. Some say it is her "curves", others say it is gap-toothed smile, and many are just plain fixated with her breasts. Either way, she has something that made Vogue Paris dedicate a whole issue to her.

Now Lara is the cover model for Love Magazine, and guess what?!?!? She's naked on the cover. Surprise, surprise. She is also the new face of Louis Vuitton ,replacing Madonna who modeled in the LV ads for two seasons. Photos from The Cut. Oh and sorry for the nudity if you are at work.

Say What?!?!?!?!

If you haven't heard it yet, V Magazine is going to do a plus size model issue with some pretty famous photographers. Read the news story here. The thing that really gets my goat is that fact that one of the photographers is none other than Mr. Karl I Hate Fat People Even Though I Used to Be Fat Lagerfeld. Remember when he used to look like this...

Well isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? Remember when he said this and that. Self-hate is horrible, especially when you are in denial. What say you good readers?

I'm Sitting On The Fence

Rachel McAdams is on the January 2010 cover of Vogue. I really like the hair and makeup and Prada outfit. It reminds me of the classic pin-up look, but they brightened up her face too much. It looks like there is a glare on her face. I was really hoping for something different for the new year *cough cover with actual models cough*, but I see nothing has changed. Is This Not The Coolest Thing Ever!

The pics of the newest Mac Viva Glam spokesmodels are out.Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga look fantastic. I think these are the best Viva Glam pictures in forever. I can't wait to see the new shades in the spring.

From the Huffington Post:

Lady Gaga is all glammed up for her new ad with Cyndi Lauper for MAC's Viva Glam Spring 2010 campaign, to debut in February. Each songstress will tout her own new shade of lipstick, Viva Glam Gaga and Viva Glam Cyndi. The product won't hit stores until March 18, so you'll have to wait until then to have Gaga lip color.

Gaga and Lauper are the newest faces of the MAC AIDS fund, which has raised over $150 million since 1994. Previous spokesmodels include Fergie, Pamela Anderson, Christina Aquilera, Missy Elliot and Chole Sevigny.

I'm Walking On Sunshine

High Snobette has the scoop on the SS 2010 Christian Louboutin Collection. His shoes never cease to amaze me. They are always tresmazing! Everything in this collection is colorful and full of life. It reminds me of sunshine, tropical beaches, and Carnival! I can't wait to see these shoes in person, so I can really see the colors up close. Purses were also included in this collection. Some people don't realize that he makes bags too. I actually like his bags and how they compliment the shoes.

All Hail The Queen/Bad Bish

I know, another Lady Gaga post, but I found this to be incredibly funny. I love how she does her own thing and doesn't really care. Kind of like me! Well she met the Queen of England the other day, and no she did not tone her look. She said she did but for Gaga, we know that a little is still a lot. Gaga wore a long red latex dress with a Shakespearean ruff collar that she took off when it was time to meet the Queen. Say what you will about Lady Gaga, the girl is consistent with her crazy. Photos are from my old internship Stylehop. If you want to intern with them click here for more information.

WHOA!!!!

This post was supposed to go out almost a month ago but Blogger was acting funny. I really want to get this magazine. I heard Bruce Weber, Tim Walker and Terry Richardson did the photography for this magazine. I think a magazine for trannys, gender benders, and others is great! Don't you? My favorite shots are the ones of the top male models dressed up like pin up girls. Via Bryanboy.

CANDY 1 from Luis Venegas on Vimeo.

UBER Cute Footage

I think the Videophone remix video from Beyonce and Lady Gaga is colorful and cool. It has really grown on me. Now I love it even though some of the video left me confused lol, guns for a song about videophones?!?!?! Anyway! This footage from behind the scenes is so much better. It gives you a glimpse of the process. It shows that artists are human, and that two of the top female artist can actually be friends. I hate when the media tries to pit top women against each other. The video also shows them discussing hair and other video elements, so this video is great for anyone who wants to learn about styling video shoots or directing.

Tavi + Rodarte + Target + Style.com

This is the neatest video ever. It is a video that Tavi from Style Rookie made for Style.com about Rodarte and the new Target collection that comes out online and in stores December 20th. The new Rodarte for Target collection is so cute. I really love the animal print dress because animal print can spruce up any wardrobe. See last week's post here. I am going to have to check it out online because my Target doesn't usually sell the designer clothing collaborations. That is so weird to me becuase they sell the designer jewelery but not the clothes.

But the cutest thing in the video is Tavi. She is so smart and cool. I love her. I want to take her tiny body and carry her around in my pocket. I love how in most of the interviews, even the one with the tiny Elijah Woods, the camera is stuck at the waist of the person being interviewed and she is looking up at them. She asked some pretty good questions. I can't wait to see what's in store for her future.

Pre-Fall Collections Part 2

I know pre-fall collections get in stores early, but these designers made half summer/half fall weather clothing. They are bright, short, cropped, and tight. Even the coats are minimal. In spite of all that, these three collections are my favorites so far. Photos from Style.com.

Her collection was dazzling. I really loved how Herrera created structured pieces and then blended them with insane color and patterns. Big sleeves and draping were big themes in her collection. She also used color blocking and lush silks which made the clothes look rich. As usual, her evening dresses were phenomenal. She never has a bad collection.

Rachel Roy's collection started off with floral pastel prints and moved into solid neutrals and cool colors. It seemed like this collection was a mix between the feminine and masculine sides of a women. The pants were either tight like leggings or loose and cropped. The dresses were tight and body conscious, but not too tight that they looked sleazy. This was also another collection that featured draping, but it also featured a mix of textures from soft to rough. The collection looks interesting.

Versace was bright, sharp, and very Italian. The platforms and hemlines were high, but the clothes were even tighter. I liked the detailing on the clothes. There were a lot of panels of fabric going up and down and around the clothes. This collection featured patterns too. I think this whole pattern thing that has been going on for at least two seasons now and is going to stay for at least one more season. So stock up.

Paging Sherlock Holmes Please...

For a few years now, we have been hearing about luxury apparel and jewelery heists in and around London. People have been robbing stores and warehouses using any means necessary including motorcycles. Now they are robbing from delivery trucks. I may not be Sherlock Holmes or work for Scotland Yard, but I seriously believe these are being carried out by the same or similar groups of people. It has to be, right? Now someone has robbed Posh Spice. They took her entire collection that was in route to be sold at Neiman Marcus in America. Hopefully the pieces can be made quickly, or they are able to find out who did this so they can get the dresses back.

Photo and story from Vogue UK's website:

The dresses, said to be worth up to £350,000, were taken at knife-point from the driver after their collection from 19 Entertainment's head offices in west London on Thursday. The driver was not seriously hurt but was left bruised and shaken following the attack.

"This operation was meticulously planned. The thieves must feel they can make a fortune selling the collection on the black market," a source told the Daily Mail. "Victoria was informed straight away about the incident and was shocked and deeply saddened, although her first priority was the well-being of the driver."

Pre-Fall 2010

Pre-Fall 2010 collections came out last week and they are pretty interesting so far. I usually don't pay that much attention to resort or pre-fall but everyone kept talking about how cool pre-fall was. I decided to give them a chance. So far everything looks good, but it looks like a continuation from last spring and fall. Photos from Style.com. Part two comes tomorrow.

This collection was a very sharp and serious turn for the young designer. He usually creates funky, laid back sportswear that you can wear anytime and almost anyplace. It reminded me of grown up work wear with a twist because there were a lot of trousers and shorts with trousers underneath. Wang said this collection was for the girl who has "to go to work sometime."

Christopher Bailey did an awesome job with Burberry's pre-fall collection. I thought the muted blues, khakis, plums, and blacks were great. The lines were crisp and the tailoring was sharp. This military themed collection went back to the company's roots, and it worked out great.

Karl Lagerfeld showed a collection in the city that inspired it, Shanghai. The collection was also inspired by the military, so there were Asian prints mixed with Communist military uniforms. I liked how a good majority of the outfits were mostly dark with little bursts of yellow and red. I can also tell you that over the knee boots aren't going anywhere.

DVF's collection was colorful and very very youthful. It reminded me of something that the girls on The City or Gossip Girl would wear. The collection was full of cute colors and nifty patterns. There was also an abundance of cropped coats, pants, and shorts. Furstenburg designed a collection that was fun, hip, and cool.

The thing that caught my eye in this collection was the use of orange and the use of patterns. Patterns were used heavily throughout this collection and popped up on blouses and dresses. The color orange was barely used in this collection but stood out to me because of its brightness in a sea of black clothes that I could see women wearing either to work or out at night for a fancy dinner. It was a good solid collection.

Twitter Has Now Been Deemed Popular Culture

DUH!!!! Twitter is everywhere. It has popped up in some idiotic "song" called LOL smiley face. I hate that song. Spare yourselves now and try not to look it up. Now twitter has infiltrated fashion. There a ton of fashion people on twitter, so it makes a little sense to put a piece of Twitter into a fashion spread right!?!?!? Well Vogue Italia and Steven Meisel did just that for the December 2009 issue. The editorial is genius! Who would have thought to use the Twitpic as an editorial? I love it! All photos are from Fashionologie.

OH DON'T FORGET TO FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER @THEFATANDSKINNY! I USE THAT AS MY MINIBLOG, SO I TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT MY LIFE THERE! :)

I GUESS?!?!?!?!? I love me some Aretha Franklin, but this is a no. I know it is cold in NYC, but you can't light the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree like this. I am seriously reconsidering this. I wanted to buy it, but now I think that is going to be a no as well.
