Bad Bish-Blogger Edition

Bad Bish

Bad Bish Blogger Edition is back with Karen from Where Did U Get That. When I first met Karen, it was at NYFW, and we had a quick chat about how we wear the same size shoes and I asked to take the picture above. She was very nice and sweet. I have been a fan of her blog for quite some time because I simply like her style. From her wavy hair to her bell bottom jeans, Karen was rocking funky 70s era style before it became cool again. Check out her blog Where Did U Get That and check out some other pics from her blog below.

Why Do Pretty Girls Over Do It With Plastic Surgery?

Now before I get started, this isn’t a post against plastic surgery. I have no problems with plastic surgery, what I do have a problem with is women changing their faces and bodies so much that they become totally different people. People have the right to do whatever they want to their bodies, but when is too much…too much?

We see it all the time with celebrities. They are already beautiful, yet they feel the need to change their skin color, facial structure, and morph their body parts into something that is bigger, but not necessarily better. If we look at Lil Kim, Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, and Heidi Montag, we can see that something much bigger and dangerous is going on here.

What I think we need to do is look at the reason people and celebrities decide to do this to themselves. Is it all worth it? Apparently not. When a fan told Kim Kardashian earlier this year that she was getting plastic surgery to look like her and please her man, Kim told her and her other fans not to do so, yet we can track her plastic surgery through the many pics of her on the web. It seems as though she regrets her surgeries, yet she continues to have them.

Poor Heidi Montag. We have seen her go from enthusiastic before surgery to remorseful and ashamed post-op. But has she really changed? She used her new body and surgery to make money in the press, and now she is using the same things to make more money. She says she feels bad about her surgeries and wants to warn women on the dangers of plastic surgery, but every picture and interview she does on the subject, she gets paid for.

We don’t know their back stories, but we can assume, something I hate to do but have to for the sake of this post, that they morphed their bodies to outrageous proportions for men, fame, fortune, and some strange psychological reasons. I am not a mental health professional, so please bear with me for the sake of this post.

I just feel like we need to examine our society and the world we live in to figure out why we allow this and why this is OK in the first place. We need to figure out how we can raise young girls to see their bodies in a new light where they are happy with themselves. We also need to figure out how we can stop plastic surgeons from taking advantage of women and teach them how to treat body dysmorphic disorder.

What do you think?

Bollywood and MAC-My Dream Collaboration

Bollywood and Mac

I can’t believe that Bollywood and MAC are collaborating on a makeup collection!!!! If you know anything about me, then you know that I love Bollywood movies. Devdas is one of my favorites. My best friend Karma got me the DVD for Christmas, and I have watched it twice since then. So imagine my surprise when I saw that MAC cosmetics was collaborating with some of Bollywood’s biggest stars and the make up artist who makes them look beautiful on the screen. I can’t wait for this collection to come out. Are you excited for this collection too? Photos from BellaSugar.

Is Someone Else Looking To Buy Elle?

Jessica Simpson Elle Cover
Photo from Daily Stab.

Remember when I said Hearst was looking at buying Elle, well now it looks like Hearst may have some competition. I must say, if Elle is sold to anyone, I hope it would be Hearst and not Bauer. The last thing I would want is for the fashion magazine to turn into a celebrity driven content machine. What do you think? Find out more details below.

P.S. I Made This Feather Skirt

Not really. I haven’t actually made this  P.S. I Made This project yet, but I do feel like this would be a quick and easy DIY to do. I have decided to start my side project, where I do wardrobe consultations. I think I also want to do personal shopping. One of my friends wants to wear a corset dress with a feather skirt bottom for New Years Eve, and she wanted me to help find her some options.  I already sent her some options last week before I saw this DIY. I think making this skirt would be great for New Years Eve. What do you think? Would you be interested in doing something like this? Are you even interested in the feather dress trend? Check out P.S. I Made This.

Trend Report: Oxblood

Let me first preface this trend with a conversation I recently had with my English major/ raging feminist roommate:

Me: “I need a new party dress for Christmas this year, I was thinking something like that dress from the Marni show, like a great oxblood dress.”

Sarah, not really paying attention, because she’s being a good student and writing a bajillion page thesis paper: “Oxblood? EWWW, why would anyone want bloody clothing? You fashion people are so weird.”

Me: *face-palm*

Don’t worry guys, it’s a color, not actual blood.

Somewhere in between crimson, brown, and cranberry colored you have oxblood, a great, rich red. It’s a color that is perfect for the holidays and conjures up thoughts of crisp autumn leaves and mugs of mulled wine.

This is a pretty fool-proof, classic color. So the only rule is: pick something you love!

Other than that, if you’re completely color-phobic, remember that a deep burgundy is absolutely divine as a lip color. My personal favorite burgundy lipstick is Dark Side by M.A.C.

Carmakoma Boost Your Carma Video

I would have posted this video last week, but I was on total holiday mode. I think the Carmakoma video is visually stunning and has an amazing message. I think the message is great for woman of all sizes, even though it is coming from a plus size clothing line. How many times have we been judged by the little number inside our clothes? It is ridiculous. Check out this awesome video.

Boost your carma Size is a number – confidence is a choice
Carmakoma’s new film ”Boost your carma” is a vivid illustration of the curvy woman of today. Check it out here!

”The main character in the film is like the carmakoma woman. She feels free in her body, uninhibited by other people’s opinions. With an understated decadence she is  playing with the forbidden showing her bold femininity and her urge for life in a sophisticated and extremely sexy manner,” says Heidie Lykke and Angelica Weiss, the two women behind carmakoma.

The film is created as a visual collage with a boost of feelings, states of mind, actions and expressions. The carmakoma woman likes challenges and to explore herself. However, she finds calmness and strength from inside. All of these qualities makes her beauty radiate. The gorgeous styles on her body establishes a balance between her inner and outer expression og you are not in doubt about her identity. She is a pioneer who is not afraid to use her femininity in her stride forwards. Like a modern Marilyn Monroe

In a celebration of the curvy woman the film is inspired by Helmuth Newton’s classical and iconic fashion frames and an observing and sensual camera posture like the filmic portrait of “the perfect human” by the Danish film maker Jørgen Leth.

Trend Report: Leather

The fall/winter season has seen an interesting juxtaposition.
On the one hand, we have the demure lady-like looks of the 1950’s and the return of old Hollywood glamour.
On the other hand, we have the return of the bad-ass babe, pulling references from the fetish culture right and left.

I personally think that the mix of the two is simply delicious.

One way designers put a little dare-devil into their collections was a liberal use of leather.
The little leather biker jacket, liquid leggings, and black boots *yawn*….

Time to stretch your boundaries a bit and pull out the leather over-the-knee boots, skirts, dresses, shorts and did I hear a request for a great cognac leather shirt a la Celine?

Of course, the question is always how to wear leather without looking like a dominatrix in training.

Pick a Statement

One fabulous leather piece is enough to add edge to an otherwise boring outfit, or try wearing a piece with leather cut-outs or leather piping for just a touch.

Sugar and Spice

This is why the lady-like look seems such a natural look to match with leather to me. The easiest way to tame down leather is to pair it with something girly or conservative for a fabulous contrast.

Lighten Up

Try a cognac or blonde leather instead of black to make the look lighter. Bonus, it will also make it easier to wear during the day, and appropriate for spring and (in the colder climates) summer.

How to Care for Leather

Keep in mind that leather is in fact skin, just like yours.

So when you first bring it home, spray it with a leather protectant to keep it from drying out, protect it from water and make it easier to clean.

Oil and polish it as necessary to keep it from cracking or to repair scuffs.

Try to keep it from getting wet (as much as possible, but hey, life gets in the way). If it does get wet, just let it dry in a cool, dark room. If it dries too fast it will crack the leather. For shoes, stuff them with tissue or soft cloth to absorb all of the moisture.

When you do need to clean it, don’t use solvents or soap, instead just use a warm damp cloth on leather or a soft brush on suede.

And of course, pleather is always a great vegan option, which you can keep clean with just a little soap and water.

Wearing Winter White Is Totally Not Such A Big Deal

Wearing winter white is not such a big deal, but I really dreaded writing this post because every time I write about wearing white after Labor Day on Twitter, people get so bent out of shape. Fashion rules don’t exist anymore. You can wear whatever you want to wear, and why is it so bad to wear white after Labor Day anyway? Like why is that a problem?

Like I said whenever I tweet about this on Twitter, people get so angry. My mind gets so boggled by the fact that people can be that disturbed by a color. Winter is such a beautiful season to wear white in. Winter white reminds me of snow and polar bears and snow leopards. I don’t understand why people have such a complex on winter white, but if you don’t mind the color, here are some great options.
