SURFACE TO AIR x DAISY LOWE – “From Dusk Til Dawn”

I’ve always been in love with Surface To Air. As a matter of fact, over the weekend, I was able to buy some Surface To Air shoes at the outlet mall. So excited!!!!! Surface To Air is a design collective that not only designs clothes, but makes films as well. A few weeks ago they released a video featuring the music of SebastiAn and model Daisy Lowe. She is wearing a few pieces from the Surface To Air SS11 collection. Check it out and tell me what you think.

TREND Report: wide-leg

Above: Bottega Veneta Resort 2012,; Chanel Resort 2012,; Sportmax Resort 2012,  M Missoni patterned wide-leg pants,; J.Crew Irene orange linen wide-leg pant,;  Tucker printed silk blouse,; J.Crew striped jersey top,

While older generations may find the wide-leg trend evoking images of Janis Joplin and peace sign-wielding Vietnam protesters, we who live on the chic side of life see otherwise.   Denim and pant alike were stretched out and lengthened on the Spring 2011 and Resort 2012 runways.  Paired with a sheer top and classic blazer, the look that comes together oozes luxury.  Plus, wide-leg pants are extremely flattering on women of all body types.  And, unlike the denim leggings of fall and winter, wide-leg pants can be perfectly light and airy for summer.  Pick a pair in a bold color for added effect and compliment with a favorite pair of skinny wedges (chunky will definitely give you the 1970’s effect) and a structured, lady-like clutch and you’ll be turning sun-burned heads all summer.

Women In Philanthropy’s Power Of The Purse

Power of the Purse

Last night I was lucky to attend the Women in Philanthropy’s Power of the Purse silent and live auction fundraiser. I want to thank Staci Rutherford from the Handbag Report for inviting me to the event. It was set atop one of the highest buildings in Columbia at the Capitol City Club. As the ladies dined on hors d’œuvres and looked out onto a scenic view of the city, purses lined the room.

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation

I have always wondered about the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation because I had heard some great things about this product for African-American skin. Here is a great review from Rose Anne Tang on how to apply the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation , how to make it look smooth and less cakey, and the pros/cons of the product. I hope you found this tutorial as helpful as I did. I may be trying this out soon.

Washington Roberts Spring/Summer 2011

Washington Roberts is back with his Spring/Summer 2011 collection. You may remember me writing about Washington Roberts in September. The collection is inspired by the movie Avatar. It also features sheer, textured fabrics and cutouts.  I am loving the feather accents and body conscious looks. There are also a few pairs of white pants in the collection that are perfect for the summer. Roberts will show at Africa Fashion Week in July. What do you think of this collection?

TREND Report: pretty in prints

Above: Model images from Missoni Spring 2011 RTW, Proenza Schouler Spring 2011 RTW.  Thread Social Flutter Paneled Romper,; Tibi Paisley Chiffon Long Dress,; Etro Printed Silk Shorts,; Diane von Furstenburg Layland Embellished Camisole,; Wayuu Taya Foundation Susu Bag,; Chan Luu Multicolored Beaded Bracelet,; Missoni Large Zigzag Ballet Flats,; Stella McCartney Citrus-Print Skirt,; Alexander McQueen Tiger-Print Scarf,

I’ll be the first to admit, the magnitude of prints that arrived on the Spring 2011 runways this past winter was a bit of a sensory overload.  But, now that the weather is (slowly) becoming more like summer weather, the idea of bright, bold prints seems less overwhelming.  The key to prints: if you’re uneasy about wearing more than one print at a time (mixing different prints is not longer a fashion faux pas, in case you were wondering), then stick with one piece with an interesting or bright pattern while keeping the rest of the pieces neutral.  If, on the other hand, you’ve been waiting patiently over the past few years for fashion to take a turn from bleak minimalism, then now’s your time lady!  Pack on the prints and make the streets your catwalk.

WTF Barnes & Noble Censors Dossier Cover

Censored Dossier Cover

Have y’all seen this? The new Dossier with everybody’s favorite androgynous model Andrej Pejic on the cover was censored in Barnes & Noble stores around the country. They never censor male chests ever, but they went and censored this one because Andrej looks too much like a woman. SMH! How do you feel about this? I think this is a bunch of poppycock!
