During fashion week, I went to the Blogger’s Night Out event. While there, I checked out the Plastics Make it Possible® booth. I took a textile class a few years ago in fashion school, and I vaguely remembered all of the ways plastic improved the fashion industry. Going to this booth and talking with the representatives brought it all back to me.
Plastics are in the fabrics that we wear, the sequins that hangs from our shirts, the material in our heels, and the laces of our shoes. Plastics are everywhere, and they are coming out with even more eco friendly materials as well. The lovely people at Plastics Make it Possible® is giving away a $250 gift card, just for voting for a favorite fashion look made possible by plastic. Check it out! Photo from here.
To prove that, because of my cold, I have way too much time on my hands, I have decided to write in my iPad Notebook a little cheat sheet on the following fashion industry rumors. This is my way of keeping it all together. Since Galliano was fired from Dior a year ago, the fashion world has been going through a guessing game of which designer is going to which fashion house. This morning sees the rumors going on overdrive yet again.
The 4 Corners of a Circle show was a very interesting show to say the least. I was not as impressed with it as I thought I would be. A dancer came out and twirled around in a white skirt for about 3-4 minutes. It was a very beautiful and intriguing moment in the show, but the clothes did not live up to the hype. There weren’t that many cohesive moments in the show. Sure a lot of the pants came in various lengths with panels on the sides and plenty of the clothes came in red and gold, but the show could have been better. On a bright spot, I could see were the designer was going with this collection, and I can see that she will improve in the coming seasons.
Emilio Cavallini showed hosiery and bodywear for the adventurous woman. As the models sashayed up and down the runway in various states of dress and undress, you could tell that amount of looks you could get from a wardrobe of Emilio Cavallini could be infinite. Everything was shown from fishnets, to snake prints, to every kind of zigzag and color. It was just enough to keep me interested.
The Anna Francesca show was full of crazy colors, patterns, prints, and embellishments. It was the kind of show that makes fashion fun. These fantastical designs for men and women were most definitely out of this world. Thanks Khali from Shop Epitome for covering this show for me!
SHOWS PRESENTED BY THE FASHION GALLERY NYFW-SHOW PRODUCER, GREGORY MOORE
The Academy of Art University Graduate show was amazing. These students were so great. I loved all of the indiviual collections. I can’t wait to graduate with these students in May. I wish them all the best and good luck. View the video for the entire show.
Steven Burrows showed his practical sportswear and a denim collection for Raven Denim that seemed to amaze all in attendance. You can see the denim collection in the video first and then the sportswear second. I always enjoy Stephen Burrows’ collections because they are tailored to fit most women’s, if not all, body types. Now the denim collection was short and tight and cute. That may not be for everyone, but the sportswear sure is. His sportswear is always suitable for many occasions, while I saw the denim collection as perfect for a little night or day wear. As usual the master of sportswear knocks it out of the park with another fantastic collection.
The Blonds always put on a fantastical show full of glitz, glamour, and giant amounts of fun. I knew the party, because every one of their shows is a party, would be jumping the minute I saw Lil Kim walk in. Then there was a motorcycle on the runway! Rock music blared as models in helmets with long blond ponytails and jewel encrusted corsets rocked the runways. The best part of the night was the addition of male models who showed that The Blonds were perfectly capable of making a rockin’ menswear collection as well.
The Sachin + Babi show was great. The design duo showed a hot jewel tone and leather based collection that will be perfect for young starlets like Rihanna or Selena Gomez. The strategic cut outs and designs on the garments were fun, young, and hip. I can’t wait to see this collection on the red carpet.
Rolando Santana always has a huge turnout to his shows because he knows how to create exciting collections that are super hot and super sexy. This collection was smoking in my opinion. The disco hair and soundtrack fit in perfectly with the 70s influenced collection. The sequins and wide leg pants, slinky dresses and fur were just divine in my eyes. I simply can’t get enough of this designer.
Farah Angsana presented fab cocktail and evening wear for every socialite, red carpet diva, and prom queen. This video does not do this collection, which was inspired by various international cities, justice. With every gown that came out, came an audible gasp of joy and delight from the audience. There were two Real Housewives of New Jersey in the front row. Maybe we will be seeing some of these cocktail dresses on them in a future episode.
This collection of fur, leather, and other sumptuous fabric was as close to a couture collection as you could get in America. Norisol Ferrari showed a collection that was full of technical prowess and fantastical design. One of the Coco and Breezy twins showed up to model among the mannequins as well. The presentation and dimmed lighting really showed the beauty in the clothes.
