Hey ya’ll! It’s that time again where I post pictures of clothes that I wish were made in plus sizes. Actually I was on Fashionista’s website where I saw these pictures, and thought to myself how some of these pieces could be translated to plus sizes. I always seem to do that. The last time I did this post, I talked about denim styles. This time we are focusing on NYFW Spring Summer 2017 looks from fashion week last week.My fashion designer side and my fashion stylist side are thinking of all the ways I can make these outfits happen for myself, my clients, and my readers. The first looks up are from Coach, Monse, and DvF. I love these looks. I think they are fun and flirty and very fancy. I think I could see quite a few plus size girls rocking these looks. Let the Fashion Trend Battle Begin:
NYFW Fall 2016 was a fierce battle with many trends fighting it out for the death. We have officially gone from have clear concrete trends to too many micro trends all at once. The main battle has been the same battle that has been going on for the past few seasons. The 90’s trends have been duking it out with the 70’s trend. There also seems to be battle between the minimalism of the Normcore trend that was big a few seasons ago and has its roots in the 90’s and some of the 1930’s glamour that helped influence the decadence of the 70’s. The minimalism of the previous seasons are truly a thing of the past. Spring 2016 couture was truly decadent in nature. Even the most bland of garments had a little something extra going on. Many garments had low cut necklines, pajama dressing is still in, and flouncy chiffon and lace are still a favorite with extra beading in the mix.
Have you ever thought about certain denim street style looks that you think should be made into plus sizes? Well I’m back with another post where I show y’all street style looks that I would love to see/make for plus sizes. The first post in the street style series is here. Sidenote: If you are someone who wants your clothes to be flattering, this isn’t the post for you. I am from the f*^k flattering school of thought. If I like it, then I will wear it. 🙂 OK. Moving on. These are the looks I really love. I can’t wait for plus size designers and plus size women to start taking more style risks.
This weekend I drove to Atlanta to attend The Curvy Fashionista Style Expo. I don’t know if you follow me on Snapchat @tfasblog, but all of my Atlanta adventures were documented on the app. I had a really good time at Marie’s Denee’s event even though my day got off to a very rocky start.
I just want you all to know that I thoroughly enjoyed the fall 2015 couture fashion shows. They are giving me all the feels. Sometimes I am skeptical of what I see. Sometime designers either do too little or too much with couture. This season though… was amazing.
The red lip ruled the 2015 Oscars. From Margot Robbie to Emma Stone- who I was told is wearing Revlon of course- red lips were everywhere. Now a few ladies did opt for the neutral, natural lip, but their beauty looks didn’t stand out to me. It was the Oscars for crying out loud! If there ever were a time to go red, last night was it. Below you will find a bunch of red lip products to choose from with various price points. I picked out some lip glosses, lip sticks, and more because I know everyone doesn’t automatically want a lipstick. Photo from here.
I wish I was near Atlanta. Plus size store Ashley Stewart is having a #LOVEYOURCURVES tour featuring Marie Denee from The Curvy Fashionista and more special guests. They are also giving away two scholarships. Great right? Yea it is. You better get yourself together, call your friends and head out to Ashley Stewart’s #LOVEYOURCURVES tour.

I know I am late to the party-preparing for finals y’all, but I had to post this. The Design Collective for Evans S/S15 fashion show was the first time a plus size retailer had shown at London Fashion Week, and that is big news. I mean they literally made history. A lot of the clothes in this collection are super cute. I love the colors, the laser cut skirts, the fabrics that went from really sheer to really solid. I can’t wait to see how they translate this to their website next season.

We are wrapping up our New York Fashion Week coverage, and survived 7 days of running around the city to bring you the latest and greatest in fashion week news! Here is our take on Day 7 trends!
What’s fashion week without an over-the-top runway presentation by Betsey Johnson? Boring! And our team at FashionMingle.net doesn’t like boring, so luckily for us, we have Betsey Johnson’s runway to look forward to every season. Betsey showcased her Spring collection on Day 7, opening up the show with 2 models representing gay marriage. When they turned around their suit coats said pre-nup! And that was the name of Betsey’s wedding-themed collection.

Erin Fetherston’s collection was classically simple, but lovely. Erin featured black and white, pastel yellows, and deep shades of blue. By default, Betsey’s collection featured a lot of white, since it was wedding themed. Michael Kors’ collection was also heavy on the blues and yellows, though there were some pastels, and black and white separates intermixed in the collection.
No one mixes prints like Anna Sui, and for her Spring 2015 collection she did not disappoint. Erin Fetherston also incorporated florals, but again in a simple, but sophisticated way. The florals in Erin’s collection did not overwhelm the garments. Michael Kors featured a plethora of print looks, but the prints were either floral based or plaid based.
Betsey Johnson’s runway featured lots of tulle, as to be expected for her wedding themed collection. Betsey also featured a few looks that resembled nylon or plastic that would typically be used for rain coat materials! I could definitely see Miley Cyrus in one of these plastic-esque looks! Erin incorporated sheer fabrics into her collection for use in her striped looks.

The Anna Sui models had everything from veils to shades. It was a really cool runway! Betsey Johnson’s wedding themed collection entitled Pre-Nup featured fun heels and fun handbags. She created a cake shape handbag and a lipstick shaped handbag.

DEBUT RUNWAY: Deola Sagoe/Clan
The brands Deola Sagoe and Clan fashions debuted for the first time at New York Fashion Week. Deola Sagoe is the designer behind the Deola Sagoe label, while the clan collection is designed by her daughters Tena, Tiwa, and Aba Sagoe. They labels are based in Africa, and this was their first time showing at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The looks were unique, and we love to see emerging and up and coming designers featured at New York Fashion Week.

Day 6 was extremely busy for our team! Heather and Sofia attended Nolcha Fashion Week, while Shalanda and Jane stayed at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week to capture the shows at the Tents.
Black and white remained popular for Day 6 of New York Fashion Week. Zang Toi’s celebrated his 25th anniversary as a label with a heavily black and white collection. He also featured deep shades of green, red and purple, which is rather unique for Spring! Ever since Victoria Beckham’s show earlier in the week, we’ve seen more and more designers incorporating darker shades into their collections. Typically these hues are reserved for Fall, but the use of deep shades of blues, greens, and purples further prove the blurred line phenomenon happening between the seasons. Diesel Black and Gold also featured a heavily black, & white collection. Whether they were all black or all white separates or black and white prints. Other designers to incorporate black and white into their Spring collections were Vivienne Hu & Narcisco Rodriguez. Jenny Packham’s collection featured oxblood looks along with pastel yellow, and sky blue looks. The collection combination of pastels with the darker oxblood was pretty cool.
Michael Costello, Badgley Mischka and Zang Toi’s collections were heavy on the evening gown from, as to be expected since they are all magnificent evening wear designers. Not everyone can do evening wear, and it’s really an art in and of itself. Sophie Theallet took lengths to above the need with voluminous A-line skirts. Crop tops are showing their staying power, and even though the crop top is popular, the jumpsuit is here to stay with a vengeance. Almost every designer has featured at least one or more jumpsuits in their collections. Rompers seem to be inexistent, as everyone seems to prefer to the pantsuit edition. Pamella Roland featured a lovely white jumpsuit for her Spring 2015 collection.
Here at FashionMingle.net we love to bring you cover from outside the tents as well as feature designers showing at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. For our third season in a row, Fashion Mingle sent team members to cover Nolcha Fashion Week. Nolcha Fashion Week, founded by Kerry Bannigan, features independent fashion designers during New York Fashion Week. Fashion Mingle Contributors headed to Nolcha to conduct backstage interviews with the designers and bring you the trends from Nolcha! Stay tuned for their Nolcha report! You can learn more about Nolcha here in an interview conducted by Heather Petrey with the founder of Nolcha.

The lovely peeps at FashionMingle.net will be bringing us an awesome report each day from New York Fashion Week. Enjoy!
TICKET TO THE TENTS DAY 5 TREND REPORT (Featuring Lela Rose, Carolina Herrera, Dennis Basso, Reem Acra, Libertine & Oudifu)
The FashionMingle.net team wrapped up Day 5 late covering the last shows of the day; Libertine & Oudifu. Oudifu is considered an emerging label to the U.S., but is very popular in China! In addition to bringing in designers from around the world to showcase their collections at MBFW, IMG has done a major push to feature international emerging and up and coming designers. Grant it, this may be due to the fact that heavy-hitter names, such as DVF, Michael Kors, and more, have been pulling out of MBFW over the last few seasons to showcase offsite. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Young, emerging & up and coming designers have embraced the new culture of fashion, and with these gaps in the time slot of MBFW, they now have an opportunity to bring their designs to the masses. Designers such as Libertine, Oudifu, Vivienne Hu, Mark & Estel, Falguni & Shane Peacock are just a few brands that have now become MBFW household names.
The real first emergence of black and white combinations showed up on Day 5 of New York Fashion Week, starting with Lela Rose’s runway for spring. Lela Rose featured bold gingham and polka dot prints in black and white. Carolina Herrera favored the color red in her collection, infusing single, and ginormous red flowers on white fabric. The popular all white ensembles also showed up in CH’s runway, and like Victoria Beckham the day before her, Carolina Herrera featured a dark hue of purple, which is unexpected for Spring! Dennis Basso opened his collection with a dedication to the late Joan Rivers. All of us at FashionMingle.net and our media partners send our condolences to Joan’s friends and family. In typical, Basso style, his collection featured fur! Surprisingly there wasn’t as much fur as some of his previous collections, but there was fur nonetheless. Reem Acra has the best name in the world for a fashion designer! Her name makes me think of fabric! Reem created looks that featured tons of sparkle and shine. The audience collectively let out ooohs and aahhs as the amazing gowns just kept coming.
UNIQUE FIND: Johnson Harting’s Libertine
Johnson is the designer behind the label Libertine. Every season I discover new brands…well at least they are new to me. This was my first time seeing Libertine clothes and I had no idea what was in store! As soon as the lights went down, I knew I was in for a treat. The models came storming out one after the other, to upbeat, pop culture tunes, while wearing the wildest street wear looks imaginable. Wild but functional and fun. There were tons of colors, fabrics, and 3D enhancements on the clothes. To finish the show, Johnson led his models around the room in true party walk style. The audience, who simply loved the collection, cheered and clapped for the final walk. Johnson’s clothes may not be for everybody…especially the faint at heart, but watching the show and viewing his creativity is definitely exciting!
Georgine SS 15 brings the 70s glam to New York Fashion Week! The sparkles and shine are a trend that is popping up on many runways this season and it is a fun trend I can get behind. The candy wrapper disco glam look reminds me of the Studio 54 era fashions that you would see on Diana Ross or Bianca Jagger ( who was part of the inspiration for this collection). They also remind me of fashion stylist Catherine Baba– a personal style icon of mind.
Apparently the “Looks were accessorized with mink tote bags and beach towels as well as leather clutches in the shape of surfboards in collaboration with Max Steiner Design.” Cute! Cute! Cute! Cute! Cute! I am loving the trends that we are seeing so far. I wonder what the next three fashion weeks will have in store for us. Photos from Georgine.
Every fashion week, something is bound to go wrong! From losing equipment to someone being sick, and this fashion week is no exception! Our team is definitely being run through the ringer, working out technical difficulties with our laptops and our website, but we won’t let that stop us! It’s all a part of the experience of covering New York Fashion Week. Even with our technical difficulties the team wrapped up Day 4 in one piece!
In addition to the regularly scheduled designers that show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, IMG works to bring unique shows to the venue. Fashion Shenzen is always a delight, as it features fashion designers from China. Fashion is a universal industry, and it’s amazing to see styles and design aesthetics from around the world! The Fashion Shenzen designers featured looks made in shiny and sheer fabrics. They also favored highly embellished gowns with lots of sequins.
Custo Barcelona featured abstract prints and perforated fabrics. Vivienne Tam incorporated palm tree prints into her collection, continuing the popular tropical prints theme we’ve been seeing over the last couple days. Cesar Galindo used metallic and sequin fabrics in his collection.
All white ensembles are still popular going into Day 4. Nanette Lepore featured a few all white looks, but the favored color for her collection was definitely yellow! Yellow shoes, yellow-based prints, and solid yellow dresses, Nanette let us know that yellow will be trending for Spring, and she’s not the only one. Cesar Galindo also featured yellow in his collection, along with greens, pastel oranges, and metallic. Victoria Beckham’s spring collection was heavy on the tans & neutral colors black and white. Victoria even featured an oxblood hue that is typically reserved for Fall!
For Day 3 of New York Fashion Week, the FashionMingle.net team again split up to bring you maximum coverage. Style Editor, Shalanda Turner headed to the Garment District to cover Amir Taghi’s debut New York Fashion Week show, while Heather, Jeanine & Arielle covered Alon Livne. Later in the evening, our team reconvened at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week to cover Malan Breton and Venexiana.
Apparently, crop tops are here to stay! Amir Taghi favored sexy crop tops that incorporated deep V-necks. Mara Hoffman’s collection featured wide-leg pants, in all lengths (culotte and full). Mara Hoffman is also the queen of maxi dresses and sent a plethora of vibrant maxi dresses down the runway. Alon Livne stayed true to his warrior woman style, presenting a fierce collection full of sparkles, cut-outs, and 3D-enhancements.
There seems to be a lot of transportation through clothes going on this week! Malan Breton presented his “Journey to Taiwan” Spring Collection, complete with dancers and musical performers. Malan chose to use sateen-finish fabrics for the majority of his collection. At a minimum, Malan Breton showed 60 looks last night. He may win the award for the most extensive runway presentation during fashion week!
As fashion week continues, we’re starting to see more and more prints. Herve Leger by Max Azria featured bold prints and embellished fabrics in their Spring 2015 collection. Tropical prints are pretty popular for Spring! Nicole Miller took us to Rio De Janeiro on Day 2, and Mara Hoffman took us to the beach with palm tree prints, and prints that resembled the sun rising over the ocean.
Mara Hoffman takes the baseball hat to a girlie level by adding a tie-back scarf for the cap closure. Heather and Jeanine checked out Anya Caliendo’s hat show at St. Regis Hotel! Of course we have to feature some of Anya’a amazing work for Spring! Wearing one of these hats will definitely escalate your fashion status from blah to haute couture faster than a sale at Bloomingdales!
The lovely peeps at FashionMingle.net will be bringing us an awesome report each day from New York Fashion Week. Enjoy!
TICKET TO THE TENTS: DAY 2 SPRING 2015 NYFW TREND REPORT (Featuring Trina Turk, Charlotte Ronson, Zimmermann, Nicole Miller, Monique Lhuillier, & Mark & Estel)
We survived Day 2 of New York Fashion Week! Can you believe the FashionMingle.net team is already tired? And we have 6 more days of coverage to bring to you! For Day 2, the team kicked off the day with Mark & Estel’s Spring 2015 Collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. After that the team split up. Heather, Otaymah, and Jeanine covered Saunder, and conducted an interview with David Tupaz off-site, while Michelle, Jane, & Shalanda stayed at Lincoln Center to cover the shows there and conduct an interview with Nicole Miller.
Sometimes less is more as displayed by Mark & Estel. Their collection was solely made out of cotton found in your everyday denim, sweatpants and t-shirts. How do I know? Because during their final walk, Estel Day announced it to us during their closing song performance. Attending a Mark & Estel is always fun, and it was a great way to kick-off Day 2 of New York Fashion Week.
In stark contrast to the cotton-heavy Mark & Estel Collection, Monique Lhuillier, opted for shiny, and metallic finish fabrics such as satin and silk and glittery fabrics for her plethora of gowns and dresses. Zimmermann also favored metallic hues in suiting.
As seen on the Day 1 runways, pastels were again the favored choice amongst designers for day 2. Charlotte Ronson featured peach, pale blue, and pale green hues and Zimmerman featured pale yellows. And while there was a pop of pastels here and there, Trina Turk stood by her claim to fame and design aesthetic of using bold and vibrant colors. It appears that even if pastels are trending, Trina will rebel and stay bold, and who can blame her? The scene during her presentation was fun and flirty and the bold hues added to the playfulness of the collection.
Trina Turk collection’s was not only playful, but it made me think of the 60s, especially with the models wearing wide scarf headbands! The models wore bold, statement necklaces and posed with handbags of all shapes and sizes. Popular in both the Charlotte Ronson and Trina Turk collections were these comfortable looking sandals. Is the gladiator sandal being replaced next season as the it-shoe for Spring? We’ll find out.
Nicole Miller’s collection stood out on Day 2 for having the most prints. Her vision of transporting her wearers to Rio De Janeiro Brazil was creatively conveyed to the audience. The models wore prints that featured birds and palm trees, while carrying luggage. Charlotte Ronson featured a few floral prints, but overall prints were pretty minute throughout the collections with solid colors dominating day 2.
