Beauty Bit- How To Get a Straw Set for Transitioners and Fully Naturals

The straw set is one of my new protective styles that I am using during my transition to natural hair. It requires some time, but very little supplies. My beautician used some drinking straws, which you can get from the dollar store, and the wrapping paper for rollers which you can get at the beauty supply store for less than $5. Plus it lasts a long time. Every place I have gone, people have loved my hair. That was quite surprising. I have had short hair before, but I never thought I looked good with it. Even though I have a shoulder length bob, the curls have shrunken my hair, and I find that I do actually look good with short hair now. I got it done on Friday, and it still looks great on Monday. All I do to maintain the straw set is put some oil and a spray leave-in conditioner on it at night and in the morning and sleep with a satin bonnet on.

This video from backsyncfan will show you how to do a straw set with some straws. Even though she uses a specific product line, you can use whatever hair products you like or feel comfortable with. Make sure that you put a little oil on your hands to separate and retwist the curls around your fingers after your hair dries and you take out the straws. If you don’t oil your fingers up before you retwist your straw set, your curls with come out frizzy. Who wants frizzy curls? Not I. Just make sure your hands are lightly greased with a light oil because you don’t want the curls to be weighed down. Have you tried this style? Will you try it? Let me know!

The new Clements Ribeiro Swan SS13 Holiday Collection for Evans is here and looks just as cute as can be. Evans chose several plus size bloggers to model the new collection for a short fashion film that portrays all the fun that fills the collection. The bloggers are Georgina Horne, Bethany Rutter, Callie Thorpe, Marie Denee, and Nicolette Mason.

There is a definitive nod to surrealism and the entire collection is inspired by Suzanne Clements and Inacio Ribeiro’s travels – namely a visit to the Prada and Schiappareli exhibition in trendy New York. Fun graphic prints are featured on sweatshirts and jersey dresses, whilst standout pieces include quirky animal motifs – such as a lobster on a sweatshirt dress or a zebra head on a striped jersey tunic – through to retro kitsch lip print shirt dresses and a heart painted heart swimsuit.

I personally love the graphic prints in the collection. I think the stripes, lobster, and kisses look great. I know some people aren’t too fond of loud prints and splashy colors, so if you are that person…this collection isn’t for you. If you are adventurous, try this line today before it sells out!

Bad Bish- Solange at the Cannes Film Festival

Did you all catch the pictures of Solange at the Cannes Film Festival this week? She looked gorgeous in a nude colored Stephane Rolland dress with a nude bodysuit underneath and nude strappy heels. Solange’s dress billowed and blowed around her like she was a goddess in the clouds as she walked the red carpet and floated up the stairs for the Opening Gala and premier of The Great Gatsby. Apparently it was raining during the Cannes Film Festival red carpet, but Solange kept her cool at the festival by rocking her natural afro. Doesn’t she look gorgeous? To Die For- Monif C “Eva” Dress

Monif C dresses. Plus size women always obsess over them. The Eva Cold Shoulder Double Slit Dress With Detachable Belt is no exception. I live for this dress because it looks amazing! Any plus size woman would look absolutely sexy and to die for in this dress. I love the mock neck turtleneck collar, and the cut outs on the shoulders. The cut outs reveal just the right amount of skin on the top of the dress.

Then you work your way down to the detachable belt. I love the fact that the belt is detachable because it gives you options. Although I am not really all that sure that you would want to take the belt off of the Eva Dress since it looks so great as an accent piece. Then you get down to the double leg slits. Bad Bish- 22 Year Old Diana Di Poce Starts Dare Plus Size Magazine

Canadian Diana Di Poce is only 22 years old, but she has already founded Toronto based Dare Magazine. The online magazine is geared to fashion forward plus size women and features fashion legend Jeanne Beker and Karyn Johnson of Killer Kurves in the first issue. I can’t wait to check it out and see what it is all about. There has been an influx of plus size magazines lately and it makes me feel good that someone is stepping up to the plate to bring fashion to an underserved market. Check out Dare Magazine here. Stylist Amia Serrano Leaves TFAS Readers With Some Hot Style Tips

New York fashion stylist Amia Serrano was nice enough to leave my readers with a few style tips for this spring and summer. I just bought some boyfriend jeans, so I can’t wait to try the bf look she talks about in these tips. Thanks so much Amia!

1. Warm weather calls for tank tops. When wearing a loose tank, swap out your bra with a bathing suit top or tube top of the same color as your tank.
2. This is the year of “the bf”. Besides wearing your favorite bf jeans, try wearing your bf’s button up as a dress by cinching the waist with a skinny belt so that you have shape. Finish it off with a pair of flat sandals.
3. Don’t feel comfortable wearing your bf’s button up as a dress? Throw on a pair of cut off shorts, minus the belt and do a half way tuck instead. That way you still have a bit of shape.
4. Silk pj tops that are spaghetti straps can be of use outside of the bed. Do so by cutting it as a cropped top or creating a front or side knot, pairing it with a high waisted skirt, shorts or trousers. Proportion is key!
5. Grunge is making a comeback and you don’t even have to use a belt. Add edge to any look by tying a long sleeve around your hips.

Womenswear brand Rue 107 recently premiered their debut plus size collection Rue 107 +. The collection is full of crop tops body conscious dresses and skirts and plenty of printed leggings. I am really loving this collection. I think Marie Jean-Baptiste, the designer, did are really great job of translating straight size trends to plus size.
