Watching Project Runway’s Ashley Nell Tipton working on her clothing line with JCPenney is more than inspiring….IT IS AMAZING. I can only hope to be in her shoes one day, or at least have the opportunity to work with and collaborate on a clothing line with a brand that I love or look up to. I have been working on my plus size clothing line since last year. It can get very frustrating because I am doing everything myself, and I am working on a limited budget. If I could get a team together like this….you all wouldn’t be able to tell me anything! I also took a little break from working on things because I felt like I was doing too much. I was trying to do every idea that popped into my head, and I got overwhelmed. Then my fit model moved a few hours away. 🙁 Thank God I learned the lesson on to how to walk away from something and come back to it when I am more than ready.
If you are going to throw a holiday party or just want to listen to some awesome Christmas music, check out the Pentatonix Yule Log. I love looking at the Yule Log on my tv every year, and the Pentatonix Yule Log is a great way to make the season bright. Get merry with their amazing voices and enjoy the sounds of the season.
Chromeo announces new tour and single with Toro y Moi. Do you know how pumped I am? I love both of these bands so much. They both have a vintage 70s/80s influenced style, and that style is delightfully played out in this song. This is going to be one of my treadmill songs. I can tell that already. I am bummed that the tour is coming close to me but will still be hours away. 🙁 Whatever. Maybe I can figure out a way to make it anyway. Photo from ONTD.
There will be sporadic posts this week since I am moving, and I am trying to get my internet connected. Pray for me y’all!
Last night’s Met Gala 2013 theme was basically punk rock, and most of the best dressed at the Met Gala took the theme to another level. While most fashionistas were not interested in the theme, I think the punk theme was a great opportunity for the various attendees and designers to show off their creative side. Not every Met Gala attendee always follows the theme, and some end up looking great even though they didn’t follow the theme, but I think it helps to at least try.
While I think there were a lot of best dressed picks to choose from these women really stood out to me. I love the Stella McCartney jumpsuit that Kristen Stewart wore. Miley Cyrus looked the most punked out in her glittery mesh Marc Jacob dress and spiked hair. Rooney Mara was divine in Givenchy and Donatella Versace just looked amazing. Also who is her plastic surgeon? I think she got a new one because she has been looking a lot better lately.
Madonna and Beyonce were the queens of the night in Givenchy. Madonna looked like a punk pin-up and Beyonce looked very Baroque inspired with her corset and making skirt and boot. Coco Rocha gave a very punk turn in an animal printed and feathered Ungaro gown and Jennifer Lopez let her curves do the talking in a Michael Kors dress. Photo from Fashionista.
I am super psyched to see and hear Beyonce at the Super Bowl. I want to see her costumes. I want to know it DC3, aka Destiny’s Child, will come out and perform a medley. If Beyonce performs one of her brand new songs I could just akldhklashdkfhksdhsasdkhsl! I’m completely and utterly losing it. That is how excited I am. I don’t even care who wins the game. Game… what game? I am only here for the one and only Beyonce. These behind the scenes practice videos have me even more hyped. ZOMG I can’t breathe.
Michelle Obama looked amazing on Monday at the 2013 Presidential Inauguration. She wore at checkered coat and dress by Thom Browne, a belt by J. Crew, a sweater by Reed Krakoff, and custom boots! Oh and did you check out those hot bangs?! The ball gown was again designed by Jason Wu, and that was fantastic too! She looked fabulous! [SOURCE] [SOURCE]
Ummm… Beyonce definitely gets this week’s Bad Bish honors for all the style and flare she possessed at last week’s Revel concerts. This is a complete comeback after losing 60 pounds and getting the guts to sing and dance again just four months after giving birth to Blue Ivy or Fair Oaks as my daddy calls her. Photo from The Cut.
P.S. This is the last day to enter the Leading Lady Bra contest.
Check out Beyonce at the 2012 Met Gala Awesomeness indeed. Photo from Billion Dollar Baby.
A few days ago former Charleston Fashion Week Emerging Designers JLINSNIDER and Michael Wiernicki became featured designers and local retailers at this year’s Charleston Fashion Week. They have always been personal favorites of mine since I first saw them both present as emerging designers. I am so excited to see the progress that they have made since then. Both designers are graphic and experimental. I feel like their clothes are not for the faint at heart, but I will admit that JLINSNIDER’s designs were more wearable this year. Either way I am still a big fan and can’t wait to see their next collections.
Charleston Fashion Week Day Two showed some very exciting new talent. Bob & Kris Galmarini showed some cutey patootey clothes for children inspired by their own children and Bob’s love of screenprinting. Jessica Patricia Krupa showed some lovely vintage inspired swimwear that really shows off a woman’s curves. Angela Sum, who gets to move on in the competition, showed a very light and airy Rodarte like collection. Many in attendance loved her collection. Ra Jang showed an interesting black and rainbow colored collection that also featured some graphic prints. Nina Awasum showed a very beautiful African inspired collection. I actually met Nina and Jessica last night. They are really nice, and I wish them and all of the other designers well.
I love Fafi. I have been collecting her products and following her since high school. She is one of my favorite female artists. Now she has designed the Fafi O’Clock watch for Swatch. I am super excited. Here is what Swatch has to say.
Internationally-acclaimed artist Fafi- known for mixing strong graphic sensibility with vibrant and streetwise energy- has collaborated with Swatch creating a one-off design called Fafi O’Clock! A complete embodiment of Fafi’s bold personality and undeniable confidence, the piece merges a cheeky yet stylish character with the modern finish of the black plastic she rests on. Recalling how highly fashionable she felt when she wore her first Swatch as a kid, Fafi has long since become a renowned artist known for her enthusiasm for art and creative output. The limited-edition piece will be available in stores and online at Swatch.com now. Photo from Swatch.
The Anna Francesca show was full of crazy colors, patterns, prints, and embellishments. It was the kind of show that makes fashion fun. These fantastical designs for men and women were most definitely out of this world. Thanks Khali from Shop Epitome for covering this show for me!
SHOWS PRESENTED BY THE FASHION GALLERY NYFW-SHOW PRODUCER, GREGORY MOORE
Steven Burrows showed his practical sportswear and a denim collection for Raven Denim that seemed to amaze all in attendance. You can see the denim collection in the video first and then the sportswear second. I always enjoy Stephen Burrows’ collections because they are tailored to fit most women’s, if not all, body types. Now the denim collection was short and tight and cute. That may not be for everyone, but the sportswear sure is. His sportswear is always suitable for many occasions, while I saw the denim collection as perfect for a little night or day wear. As usual the master of sportswear knocks it out of the park with another fantastic collection.
The Blonds always put on a fantastical show full of glitz, glamour, and giant amounts of fun. I knew the party, because every one of their shows is a party, would be jumping the minute I saw Lil Kim walk in. Then there was a motorcycle on the runway! Rock music blared as models in helmets with long blond ponytails and jewel encrusted corsets rocked the runways. The best part of the night was the addition of male models who showed that The Blonds were perfectly capable of making a rockin’ menswear collection as well.
The Sachin + Babi show was great. The design duo showed a hot jewel tone and leather based collection that will be perfect for young starlets like Rihanna or Selena Gomez. The strategic cut outs and designs on the garments were fun, young, and hip. I can’t wait to see this collection on the red carpet.
Farah Angsana presented fab cocktail and evening wear for every socialite, red carpet diva, and prom queen. This video does not do this collection, which was inspired by various international cities, justice. With every gown that came out, came an audible gasp of joy and delight from the audience. There were two Real Housewives of New Jersey in the front row. Maybe we will be seeing some of these cocktail dresses on them in a future episode.
The Hills and The City alum Whitney Port will show at New York Fashion Week again this February. The line, Whitney Eve, which started in 2008 has always either bored the critics, or wowed them for looking like something Whitney Port would wear herself. “My collection has grown so much over the past few years, and the next step for me as a designer was to put on my own runway show,” Port said. I wonder if she will wow or bore the critics this time too. The show will be produced by Port’s old company People’s Revolution. Photo from here.
