The wonderful people at Nation LTD. sent me two items to review. I am not going to lie. When they contacted me, I was super excited. I love hearing about straight size brands taking the plunge to actually design a decent plus size line. This line is more than decent though. The basics are really cute and comfy. They remind of trendy yoga wear that you can wear outside without looking weird.
Steven Burrows showed his practical sportswear and a denim collection for Raven Denim that seemed to amaze all in attendance. You can see the denim collection in the video first and then the sportswear second. I always enjoy Stephen Burrows’ collections because they are tailored to fit most women’s, if not all, body types. Now the denim collection was short and tight and cute. That may not be for everyone, but the sportswear sure is. His sportswear is always suitable for many occasions, while I saw the denim collection as perfect for a little night or day wear. As usual the master of sportswear knocks it out of the park with another fantastic collection.
The Blonds always put on a fantastical show full of glitz, glamour, and giant amounts of fun. I knew the party, because every one of their shows is a party, would be jumping the minute I saw Lil Kim walk in. Then there was a motorcycle on the runway! Rock music blared as models in helmets with long blond ponytails and jewel encrusted corsets rocked the runways. The best part of the night was the addition of male models who showed that The Blonds were perfectly capable of making a rockin’ menswear collection as well.
The Sachin + Babi show was great. The design duo showed a hot jewel tone and leather based collection that will be perfect for young starlets like Rihanna or Selena Gomez. The strategic cut outs and designs on the garments were fun, young, and hip. I can’t wait to see this collection on the red carpet.
A few days ago. I went to the Duckie Brown menswear show. I love going to menswear shows. It is so interesting to see how the other half lives. The collection, designed by Steven Cox and Daniel Silver, was a real treat to see. I loved the collection. It was amazing. The asymmetrical layered shirts will be a cool look for men and women to try. The black and grey color palette mixed with reds and oranges will be perfect for brightening up the fall. I think my favorite part besides the baggy plaid pants were the chunky, oversized fair isle sweaters and the double breasted coats. This was a solid collection from the design duo.
Today I went to the Library at the Hudson Hotel to see the Hyden Yoo Fall/Winter 2012 mens and women’s collections. The olde English library themed bar was the perfect place to show the preppy clothes. Men wore muted browns and greys, flannel wool cotton twills, leather, shearling, blazers, and toggle coats. Women wore colorful fuchsias and blues, silks, jersey, suede, and wool.
Both collections for the men and women had prints. The men wore plaid and the ladies wore floral print. The men’s collection also included blazers with removable shearling collars and trench coats. This was another fine collection by Hyden Yoo. He is really going to be big. I can feel it.
A few weeks ago I went to Walmart. While I was there, with the sincere intention of only buying one item, I saw this three pack of Black Radiance mascara for almost $5. It was steal, so I had to buy it. Duh! The first mascara I tried was the Body Building Mascara. It regularly retails for $2.99 by itself at your local Walmart, Rite-aid, or other beauty/drugstore that sells Black Radiance, and I fell in lurve with it!
Last week the lovely people at Leading Lady sent me some full figured bras to review. I was a little skeptical at first because I can never seem to find the right bras in my size, but something told me to give it a try anyway. Just a sidenote before I get into the review, Leading Lady makes nursing bras, but since I am not nursing I didn’t review those. Check them out here if you are interested.
Penningtons Plus, a Canadian company that ships to the United States, has just released their holiday lookbook. In the lookbook, you will find cute jewelry and basics, nice separates and coats, and pretty lingerie and elegant eveningwear that is perfect for those upcoming holiday parties. My favorite item in the lookbook is the Iridescent Quilted Downfill Jacket. It looks very warm and cozy, which makes it perfect for me. Plus the shiny silver color looks great.
Yesterday I went to the grand opening of the brand new Versona Accessories store at the Village of Sandhill shopping center in Columbia, South Carolina. I wasn’t too familiar with this store. All I knew about it was that a friend had visited one in Charlotte, NC and loved it. She practically raved about it, so when a PR rep for the company invited me to the store I had to sneak a peek.
For the Trench Coat- You can take a trench coat from anywhere. I just happened to buy mine off of Ebay. You can either cut the sleeves off or use a seam ripper like I did. Seam rippers are cheap. Also make sure you buy some fray check from Walmart or any craft/fabric store. This will help you keep the frays in check.
I just couldn’t help but share the products i am using right now. Some of these products I have been using for awhile now and others just a few weeks. I love them and think you should use these products too. Below the video is a list of my favorite products that I am totally loving right now! I bought these products myself. I am not getting paid to review these.
It’s Prom Season and time to find that special dress. You could look anywhere, but the prom dresses by David’s Bridal might be your best bet. Why? Well…David’s Bridal has a great selection of prom dresses for straight and plus size shoppers, and most of these prom dresses are between $100 and $260. Seriously, the sizes on most of the dresses go up to a 24 or 22W, and the highest price I saw was $259. The cheapest dresses I saw were $99, and they were tres cute!
The good people at Maurices.com were kind enough to give me a gift card. I used it to get some accessories to review. I hope you love the video. I decided to showcase accessories since I am always reviewing clothes. While perusing their site yesterday, I found out that they are having a Summer Sale. Don’t miss out.
I was asked to review some jeans from Maurices.com. I had never heard of this company before, so I did some quick research and decided to say yes. Maurices is online, and they have physical stores in different cities around the country. They are a woman’s clothing store that sells plus and straight sizes. Maurices has some really cute items for work and play. So check them out!
The jeans that I tried were the Briana Dark Wash Jeans and they cost $34. The fabric on the jeans were ok. It wasn’t too thin or too thick. They have a little bit of a flare leg and even though they are supposed to be mid-rise, they seem to be low-rise for me. I think that is because I have a little bit o’ booty in the back. I did like the jeans though. They had a nice wash, and my dad thought they looked nice. Thanks dad! I would probably buy some jeans from this store again. I would love to be able to find a store near me, but that won’t be happening anytime soon because the nearest store is an hour or so away. Sorry for the poor quality pictures. I took them with my phone. 🙂
My pictures didn’t move over when I moved my blog.
I would take a picture of me in this dress, but I just started school yesterday, and I am leaving for the beach today. Jen from Jen’s Fashion Plus sent me this cute dress that I want to wear with my yellow tights from We Love Colors. The feel of the fabric is nice too. I like when fabric doesn’t itch. I also like the fact that it comes with a belt, so I don’t have to fish around in my belt drawer. LAZY! I really like the fact that it isn’t too short. I can wear the dress to church and not feel the old church lady’s eyes on my back. LOL! Thanks Jen!

Hey everyone! I am so excited to bring to The Fat and Skinny something new. I MADE A VIDEO! Ok so this is the first video, and I was pretty nervous. I need media training ASAP! bwhahahahahah! I am just testing the waters here, so bear with me. Thanks dad for being an awesome camera guy!
I would like to thank Jen from Jen’s Fashion Plus for giving me these pretty blouses. I need more work clothes, so this was great! I am wearing the black and white kimono shirt, and my lovely mother is wearing the black and white leopard print belted blouse. We really love these blouses because you can wear them for a night out with the girls, to church, to work, etc. Plus they are really cute. I can’t wait to wear my shirt to work, and mom really loves ruffles so you know she is extra excited. LOL!
