Charleston Fashion Week 2011 Finale

The Charleston Fashion Week 2011 Finale was on FIIIIRRREEE!! I met Fern Mallis, Derek Blasberg, K. Cooper Ray from Social Primer, and other awesome folks. I got to see new friend Brittany Bosco perform her new songs on the runway (check out her music), and got to see who won the Rock the Runway and Emerging Designer contests.

For the Emerging Designer Competition, Charlotte Hess, Cody Sai, Michael Wiernicki, Veritee Hill, and Stephanie Mejia. I could see why the first four were showing on Saturday night. They won the chance to be finalist for the last night of the competition, but the judges brought back Stephanie Mejia. Everyone was a little confused. Her collection was good, but it wasn’t the best.

Every designer got the chance to add  the pieces that we didn’t see throughout the week to show a more complete collection. Even with the added pieces Mejia’s collection just didn’t hold up. The one collection that did was Charlotte Hess’. She won the People’s Choice and the Emerging Designer Competition. Her knitting skills are stellar, and she showed work that I believe hasn’t been seen before. Congratulations.

Ajang Majok and Caesar Hingleton won the modeling contest. While everyone was rooting for Ajang Majok , who looks like Alek Wek, to win the women’s competition, I’m not sure anyone knew who would win the men’s. Caesar Hingleton looks like a Polo model, so I guess he was a good choice. I hope they both become modeling success stories.

Larika Page, Emerging Designer 2010 Winner, and David Yoo,Elle Fashion Next Winner, were the featured designers for the night. They showed looks that were very different from each other. Page showed looks that girly-girl would love. While Yoo showed edgy looks for the woman who isn’t afraid to wear see through pants. They both showed great collections, but Yoo’s was my favorite.

Whew! It has been a looong week. I hope you enjoyed my Charleston Fashion Week coverage as much as I enjoyed attending the event.
