Decarnin To Leave Balmain,Successor Will be Named Soon

Christophe Decarnin has left Balmain and the design house will name a successor next week.  I can’t really say that anyone is surprised but these events seeing that he was hospitalized earlier this year for mental health issues and missed the show in Paris.

Maybe there was too much pressure on him? That seems to be a trend among designers lately. They are getting overly stressed out. Fashion is no longer about art and design, but profits. Melanie Ward who styled the last Balmain show a few months ago is said to be the front-runner for the job along with other in house designers from the label. Photo from Balmain.

He is a very talented designer. I hope he gets the help that he needs and comes back from this stronger than ever. Today has been a fast fashion news day. I hope only positive things happen during the rest of the day.How do you feel about this situation? Do you feel like designers are under too much pressure?

  1. I feel bad for the guy, but that whole aesthetic (while I still LOVE it) was getting tired. It’s probably a matter of him trying to please too many people, and the right ones weren’t happy. Best of luck to him.
