DIY in the dark

If you live in Europe, you probably have noticed that the sun isn’t up for as long anymore. It goes up late, and down early. Which means it is officially winter, and the dark means outside isn’t as tempting anymore.

That’s why I’ve decided to make a small list of things to do when the night fills you with the kind of restlessness I’ve been feeling lately.

1.Make a Journal, DIY style.

If anyone knows how to do the DIY’s and do them pretty, it sure is Elsie. Her blog is filled with fun and super cute DIY’s, so if you haven’t already seen her blog, do it now!

2. Raid the flea markets!

Well, this one is of course best done during daylight, so you can actually see anything. But if you get a chance, try to look at every piece, take your time and bargain a lot. Redecorating has never been so much fun.

But nowadays there’s also online flea markets, like eBay of course, and now is the ultimate time to find cute and quirky Christmas gifts online. Can easily be done with a cup of tea and a computer. Which I guess you already have, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this.

If you don’t like the feeling of buying used goods, go to Etsy, or the very similar British place; Folksy.

If you’re surfing around Etsy a lot, you know how incredibly huge that site is. So it’s easiest to find the best things if you know what you’re looking for. There’s a risk you might buy everything from everybody otherwise.

3. Take up knitting!

You probably already know how to knit. If you don’t, this is the time to learn! Extremely relaxing and minimizes the chances of you freezing when the snow comes around. It also keeps your restless hands busy when watching television. Awesome, right? And imagine the looks of awe you’ll be getting from people when you tell them that you knitted your scarf yourself.

If you remember this week’s post, then you know that our editor Jai highly recommends knitting, too!

4. Manis & Pedis

The seasonal nail polish is in full bloom. The millions of different red shades cleverly named Christmas-themed and they are everywhere! I still have my “Cupid loves Comet” from OPI last year. Still works great.

So why not treat yourself to bright nails on both the top and bottom when the colors are slowly disappearing? Intern Angelena gave tips a few weeks back on how to do crazy junk nails. That will surely fill up your dark winter nights. And while you’re at it, put on a face mask and lie down, because there won’t be any calm when the Christmas shopping begins. And that’s soon.
