Feeling Accomplished-How I Learned To Sew

I’ve been feeling accomplished lately, so so very accomplished lately. I have to tell you all the story of my sewing dilemmas, and how I finally got it right. I have been trying to learn how to sew just about all of my life. I have been breaking machines and wasting material on fruitless projects and futile dreams, but now that it all in the past. You all know my mantra, “It’s my time and I’m ready for the next step.” Well it is true.

Last month, I started taking a sewing class at the local technical college once a week. It has been such fun learning from a very patient teacher, meeting new people, and making fun projects that don’t make sewing seem so bad after all. I’ve made two throw pillows, a tote bag out of table napkins and placemats, and some pajama bottoms. I loved my pjs so much, I went and made another pair on my own this past weekend.

This week we start making an oversized cardigan. The pattern looks crazy, but I am determined to learn how to sew sleeves. I really feel like I can finally start making my own clothes. That has been a dream of mine for so long. It feels really good to accomplish something, to finish a project, and then actually use it. I’m wearing my second pair of pajama bottoms right now as I write this post. I can’t wait to make some more. Photos from my Instagram. Follow me at thefatandskinny.
