Day Two of New York Fashion Week

The clothes this season are definitely growing up. The designers know that their customers want sophisticated clothes that don’t look like they belong on their daughters or little sisters.

The Bensoni collection was full of prints, light colors, and airy fabrics. I could see this collection on the street or the beach.

As usual, Christian Siriano’s collection featured lots of prints and ruffles. Some people thought it was too much like his other collections, but  I think if ain’t broke don’t fix it.

The ladies from Cushnie et Ochs did a great job as usual. They know their customers like sleek with a little something extra. That leather dress was cut perfectly.

Gregory Parkinson’s collection was short but sweet. The patterns and colors reminded me of candy.

I had never heard of Mandy Coon before, but after seeing her jellyfish inspired collection, I would love to know more about her. Structure is something she played with, and that made the mostly black and white collection seem fluid.

New York Fashion Week Day Three

Please support The Fat and Skinny Shop!
New York Fashion Week Fall 2010 is looking pretty good. I haven’t seen many collections that would make me say “Ummm what was that about?” There were a few but not as many as the Spring shows. Some of those shows were dreadful, but who knows? We are only on day three. Photos from Style.com.
Christian Siriano is moving quite along after winning Project Runway. You don’t see many of the winners, or non-winners for that matter, doing much after the show. Only a handful make a successful career or build unto their old career after the show. Christian’s collection was full of sophisticated dresses and pants for grown and confident women. I love the structured jackets. There was something very architectural about them. I also adored the evening gowns that blew many people who live tweeted the show away.
Canadian Jeremy Laing truly knows how to layer clothing. I suppose all those frigid Canadian winters taught him a thing or two. Pants, leggings, over-the-knee boots, shirts, and fur coats were expertly layered just enough to see each piece. Obviously the over-the-knee boot and the short body conscious dress aren’t going anywhere. The graphic prints on the fabrics added something different to the mix as well.

New York Spring Fashion Week Post 4

It’s all about the DETAILS!!!
This is why I would love to go to fashion week. SEND ME INVITES! SEND ME INVITES! SEND ME INVITES! I need to see the details of the garments in the flesh. Both the Christian Siriano and Alexander Wang shows were full of little details that really brought the whole masterpiece together.

Alexander Wang delivered yet another knock them out the park collection. It featured his signature separates that look great dressed up or way down for the edgy girl who doesn’t care, but this time they were football themed. Maybe the fall football season was calling him. I don’t know or care because the collection was amazing. The purses looked like footballs, and the shorts looked like vintage football uniform pants. The leather used throughout the whole collection reminded me of football pigskin. I also liked how he had the models wear exposed underwear that were basically sport bras and panties. The capes, leather jackets, and sweaters are great to wear on a cool spring night. Wang’s shoes caught me off guard because they are not what you would expect from a football themed show, but I loved them too. They were leopard print shoes. OMG! I can hear Rachel Zoe screaming “I DIE!” right now.

Christian Siriano’s collection was just as amazing! His collection was totes for that girly girl who loves their outfits to have hats and heels with the purse to match. The color story was amazing as well. The colors ranged from warm oranges, to neutral creams, and then to cool blues. This was another Spring 2010 collection that featured the graphic print. Obviously everyone got the same memo that said “Graphic prints are going to be huge. You snooze, you lose!” I missed that memo, just like the US Postal Service missed my New York Fashion week invites. Siriano’s draping was fantastic, as usual. I also like the rough details on the hats because they were a nice contrast to the soft draping shown in his clothes. Oh and did I tell you that the uber hot shoes with the curved heels are totally supposed to come out in January for Payless, but will probs be toned way down. I am giving Payless the sad and happy face.
