Last night was my first night at this year’s Columbia Style Week, but it was night two of the week’s worth of events. The fashion panel and celebrity fashion show was packed to the brim! I got to see my friends and fellow stylists Josh Ratliff and Brian Maynor speak on the fashion panel. Speaking of the fashion panel. I recommend going to next year’s fashion panel if you would like some advice on how to get into the fashion industry. All of the panelist gave amazing advice that anyone could use in any industry, if you were able to hear it over the screaming from the random drunk girl in the front.
Then I saw my friend and fellow blogger Teowonna Clifton from That Teowonna, She rocked it out in a cute toffee sequin dress that showed off her toned legs and decolletage. The beautiful dress also had a scarf to match. I would have had footage for you guys, but I was sitting upstairs and the angle would have made you throw up. That’s not fashionable at all.
Notes to make next year’s event better. You know I gotta put my two cents in. Please put on your event information( date, time, place) on the website. Several people, myself included, went to the Sheraton Hotel because we thought that was where the event was being held. Next time drop the twitter feed backdrop. It was distracting. Also use the two host you had for the fashion show as moderators. One could stand on each side of the panel and hand off a mic.
Also use two mics for a panel of that size or cut down the panel size to 3 or 4 people. Last but not least, have the event at a restaurant or event space with a great AC unit. I have been to Social Bar several times. The air only blows out for at least 2 inches from the vents and ducts. That means that the cool air never even has a chance to make it across the room. People were hot and sweaty. This is South Carolina. We are experiencing a deep, dirty South summer. We need air.
But all in all the event was packed, informative, and people seemed to be having a blast! I can’t wait for tonight’s event.
On Sunday, I along with Make Me Over Eb and XO Gallivanting Boy went to the Who Got Flava Hair Show at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, and we had a BLAST!!! It was a far cry from the hair show last week. This show was more along the lines of a Bronner Brothers type hair show event. I mean you know the salons had to bring it if they were going to win $10,000!
Tonight was the finale of the first annual Columbia Style Week! I had a fun time meeting a ton of new people like Mike Kelton of Us Weekly, and hanging out with old friends. The event turned out great, and the finale outside at Sakitumi was really pretty. Note to the CSW crew for next year… more lights in the front and back if you are going to be outside and definitely more chairs.
This morning I got up early and went to the Columbia Style Week Bridal Show. I saw a lot of cool vendors, and met up with some of my friends. I also met a few new people. That is what I love about a good fashion event. You will always meet a new person or two. Inside the runway space, which was held at the Tapps Building, the lighting and scenery were very beautiful and had that classy wedding reception feel to it. Anyway I saw some great bridal fashion for the groom, ring bearer, bridesmaids, and of course the bride. Five local bridal companies along with the help of Weddings 101 put together a great show. The only problem was this…
Columbia Style Week rolls along with night four. The crowds are heavier and the photo pit is jumping. It is so good to see people embrace fashion in Columbia. I know that I’ve covered local events in the past, but fashion in my hometown in very much nonexistent, so the fact that people are showing out for a 5 day fashion event is HUGE! Night three of Columbia Style Week is going strong and the house aka 701 Whaley is getting more and more packed. First up was Gigi Couture with flirty tanks and t-shirt dresses. Riot on the Runway was CSW’s attempt at a joke. They put out horrible looking swimwear on purpose, but I think the joke was lost on most. Continue Reading
