The IFB Emerging Influence Conference Was Beyond Amazing

Today I went to the IFB Emerging Influence Conference where I heard from  Mattias Swenson from Bloglovin’, Phil Oh from Streetpeeper, Yuri Lee from Lookbook, Gala Darling who changed her real name to Gala Darling, Susie Lau from Style Bubble, BryanBoy , Emily Schumann from Cupcakes and Cashmere, Amy Odell from The Cut, and Rumi Neely and her boyfriend Colin from Fashion Toast.

It was amazing. I met so many great people including Wendy Brandes, Deanne from Dream Sequins, and a slew of other bloggers that I either read about, talked to online, or met for the first time! I also got to speak with BryanBoy in person. It was so funny because we have spoken online off and on since 2005 and we never got to meet in person. When I told him who I was he just hugged me and we had so much fun having a quick chat. I am know I keep saying this on and offline, but I am really happy meeting the people that I have spoken with for one or more years online.

Some KEY highlights and blogging tips from the conference:

“Don’t do anything you don’t stand for.” -Mattias Swenson

“Every post should have something of value.” -Yuri Lee

“If I’m not passionate about it, I don’t write about it.” -Susie Lau

“Less is more.” -Emily Schuman

Do You Have Moxsie?

I want to thank everyone who has been giving my hope, well wishes, and words of encouragement especially after yesterday’s post. Minor setbacks happen. That’s life. I was on twitter yesterday and someone randomly dropped this quotation that put things into perspective.

Quote by Wangari Maathai
“A stumble is only 1 step in a long path
we walk and dwelling on it
only postpones the completion of your journey.”

I found this website called Moxsie last year while reading the Dream Sequins blog. It is a really good store full of independent fashion brands. If you are interested in finding out about new brands, this is a good website to peruse. While searching the shoe section, I found a brand that I was not familiar with.  Matiko Footwear is a company from Orange County, California that started out making surfer style footwear and then changed to women’s footwear. I have recently gotten into desert boots. I thought they were kind of weird looking but my opinion has changed. Matiko makes a great desert wedge. The color , called Sid Yellow, looks at little Brady Bunch/ Partridge Family, but I like it. The costs $172  and is a shoe that I think is becoming a new classic. Photo from Moxsie.

I’m With The Band…But Not Really

I found this band cover art blogger tag on Dream Sequins and thought it was HIGH-larious, so I did it. Deanne from Dream Sequins changed the rules and tagged everybody. I think I am going to do the same because I don’t know who all has access to photo editing software, and I don’t want to put you on the spot. If you do it let me know.

Band Name: Seventh Street Lofts (which is a 14 floor building in Los Angeles. Built in 1911 it was the city’s tallest building for five years.)

Name of Album: Of The Grace Of Tragedy
