Let the Fashion Trend Battle Begin:

NYFW Fall 2016 was a fierce battle with many trends fighting it out for the death. We have officially gone from have clear concrete trends to too many micro trends all at once. The main battle has been the same battle that has been going on for the past few seasons. The 90’s trends have been duking it out with the 70’s trend. There also seems to be battle between the minimalism of the Normcore trend that was big a few seasons ago and has its roots in the 90’s and some of the 1930’s glamour that helped influence the decadence of the 70’s.

Shoe of the Week-Dolce & Gabbana F/W 15 Embellished Shoes At Milan Fashion Week

dolce & gabbana

dolce & gabbana
I loved the details and embellishments shown on the clothes and the accessories at the Dolce & Gabbana show at Milan Fashion Week. While everyone was talking about the pregnant models and the babies going down the runway, for me the shoes were my favorite part. Some were velvet, some were furry, and some had all of these sequins and things on them. I love the basic black pumps, and the slingbacks too, but who can resist a Mary Jane pump. I love Mary Janes. I just might have to incorporate them into my fall wardrobe. I have months to plan. Photo from here.

The lovely peeps at FashionMingle.net will be bringing us an awesome report each day from New York Fashion Week. Enjoy!

TICKET TO THE TENTS: Day 4 Spring 2015 NYFW Trend Report

(Featuring Fashion Shenzen, Nanette Lepore, Victoria Beckham, Czar by Cesar Galindo, Custo Barcelona, Vivienne Tam, DVF and Parkchoonmoo)

Every fashion week, something is bound to go wrong! From losing equipment to someone being sick, and this fashion week is no exception! Our team is definitely being run through the ringer, working out technical difficulties with our laptops and our website, but we won’t let that stop us! It’s all a part of the experience of covering New York Fashion Week. Even with our technical difficulties the team wrapped up Day 4 in one piece!

UNIQUE SHOWCASE

In addition to the regularly scheduled designers that show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, IMG works to bring unique shows to the venue. Fashion Shenzen is always a delight, as it features fashion designers from China.  Fashion is a universal industry, and it’s amazing to see styles and design aesthetics from around the world! The Fashion Shenzen designers featured looks made in shiny and sheer fabrics. They also favored highly embellished gowns with lots of sequins.

STYLES

Custo Barcelona and DVF took us to shorter lengths with miniskirts and above the knee dresses respectively, while Nanette Lepore and Victoria Beckham featured ankle-length styles.

PRINTS & FABRIC

Custo Barcelona featured abstract prints and perforated fabrics. Vivienne Tam incorporated palm tree prints into her collection, continuing the popular tropical prints theme we’ve been seeing over the last couple days. Cesar Galindo used metallic and sequin fabrics in his collection.

COLOR

All white ensembles are still popular going into Day 4. Nanette Lepore featured a few all white looks, but the favored color for her collection was definitely yellow! Yellow shoes, yellow-based prints, and solid yellow dresses, Nanette let us know that yellow will be trending for Spring, and she’s not the only one. Cesar Galindo also featured yellow in his collection, along with greens, pastel oranges, and metallic.  Victoria Beckham’s spring collection was heavy on the tans & neutral colors black and white. Victoria even featured an oxblood hue that is typically reserved for Fall!

HAIR

For the most part, there’s been 2 big trends for hair: Braids or slicked back and loose. I think braids will always be a popular choice for Spring & Summer!

ACCESSORIES

The bigger the better! The Czar collection featured bold, colorful necklaces that would make the wearer the center of attention in any room.

Charleston Fashion Week 2012 Day One

Hey everybody! I’m back at Charleston Fashion Week again. Last night I went to see what the Emerging Designers Competition had to offer. The video below shows my personal faves out of the bunch. Samantha Michele Hyman showed a Downton Abbey type collection that was cute, practical, and very pretty. I met her after the show and she was pretty nice. She of the unpronounceable name, Tsvetelina Gerasimova McAuliffe, gets to move on in the design competition. Her clothes reminded me of a cool and sexy Gaga inspired Gucci collection. So I guess you can call is Gaga Gucci. Adrienne Antonson’s collection was prairie chic. If I were playing Oregon Trail, I would ford the heck out of that river in my chic felt bonnet! I can’t wait to see what the second batch of designers show tonight.

Ouch! Model’s Feet Take A Beating During Fashion Week

Models Feet Bruised After Fashion Week

I am still on a mini blog hiatus. But while I have a little bit of time to post something, I thought it would be great to post this picture of a model’s foot at the end of fashion week. It is no secret that models take all sorts of beatings during fashion week from crazy hair and makeup to crazy clothes and shoes. This picture shows just how cray cray their feet look at the end of the long month.

The Ultimate “Trash” Fashion: Jeremy Scott NYFW

I was completely inspired by Jeremy Scott’s recent collection during NYFW. For a long time now I have been thinking in terms of trash, dark, or street inspired clothing not just because I think it’s an interesting concept, but because it puts a strong message out in terms of reusing materials and that fashion can be found in all places and forms.

A lot of things we consider trash are in fact completely reusable and sometimes add interest to an otherwise drab ensemble. I would much rather tell someone a story about a piece I’m wearing like, “Oh I made this from reusable materials”, rather than I bought it at Dries a few weeks ago. I think fashion can be found everywhere and I’m really glad Jeremy Scott put that out into the open.

I’ve noticed a lot of designers this year are taking their inspirations from very interesting places like sex, human flesh, trash, etc. And I’m loving every second of it. It makes me want to work even harder to finish my duct tape bustiers and garbage bag dresses. It’s SO time consuming. I can’t even begin to start it half of the time. So please by some unknown force of nature help me be like Jeremy Scott and just do it.

So why aren’t we married Jeremy Scott?

Who’s Rockin Combat Boots this Season?

Joie Tall Lace Up Boot

GUESS “Sensation” Lace-Up Combat Boots

As you guys may know, NYC fashion week is starting and I, like so any other fashion obsessed individuals, am extremely excited and estatic. Fashion week marks the beginning of fall fashion and since it occurs in the same week as Labor Day, I guess it’s safe to say that fall is officially here and ready to take action. I love the fall season because I’m a huge boot lover; and what better time to buy a pair of funky boots than the fall? Since the weather’s cooling down; boots should be a MUST on every girl’s shopping list this month. A hot shoe trend that is making it way from the runway to the sidewalk is the laced-up combat boots. Although motorcycle boots were huge last year, the laced-up combat boots are just simply cuter, more durable and way more stylish. With the whole military-wear trend going on, laced up combat boots are so in this season.

I’m sooo excited! If you have been reading my blog for the past year and some change, you would know that I love NYC, and I plan on moving there. I also told you guys that one of my goals is to go to New York Fashion Week!

Well…

Tomorrow I leave on a super early flight to go to New York City. I may not be going to many shows, but I will report from my graduate school’s fashion show. They are they only fashion school in the country to show at the tents. You can view the live stream on September 10th, 2010 at 5 pm PST. I will also visit two different showrooms. I am also trying to meet up with some of my blogger friends, and I will attend the IFB Emerging Influence Conference. I am making the most of my week.

New York Spring Fashion Week Post 5

Fashion week is still rolling on and everyone is patiently waiting for the big Marc show tonight. While you wait, check out my reviews of these collections.

Victoria Beckham’s collection was a little bit of the same from last time with a few changes. I think she is becoming more confident with her collection and herself. For those of you who don’t know, the reason she doesn’t smile is because she is really shy and trying to avoid people. According to a few tweets, she actually came out and explained her collection to people, so I think that is a great move for her. You are going to see the same 50’s housewife, Dior’s New Look, sharp geometric shapes, but you are also going to see a pattern splashed in there and some lacey cut out mesh fabric. Do I think the last two elements should have been added to the collection…NO, but she was trying to break up her collection. I can see some potential in the future. Overall it was good and I can see people buying it.

Diane von Furstenburg’s collection was more summer oriented than spring, but I loved it. I thought it was awesome how she mixed neutrals with neon colors. the whole collection was very tropical. The prints and fabrics really made you feel like you were on the beach. The model’s wavy hair and bright makeup make me miss summer already. I also applaud DVF for being one of the few designers to use ethnic women in her show. As president of the CFDA, she has to take stands on what she believes in. Hopefully other designer will follow suit. I doubt it though.

Erin Fetherston gets a big round of applause from me. I usually like all of her collections because they are youthful and unique, but there is only so much of the Minnie Mouse and Alice in Wonderland look, that she presents year in and year out, one can take. Well I think Erin got the memo. Her collection, while maintaining its youthful charm, is very much grown up. There are no Lolita’s here. The collection was inspired by her childhood in Japan, and I can totally see that in the floral prints, cut of the garments, and flowing gowns. This collection was one of her best because she actually took the time to mature.

This Here Economy Sucks

I just found out, on the Wall Street Journal, that Monique Lhuilier and Naeem Khan have opted out of presenting runway shows for New York Fashion Week. The recession has everybody on a choke hold right now. Within the past few weeks, it has been reported that Vera Wang, Betsey Johnson, Temperley London, Carmen Marc Valvo and other designers are holding presentations in their stores , smaller venues, or are totally trying to figure out a way to revamp their presentations into something more economic for their companies. According to Fashionista.com, Men’s Vogue is folding, kind of folding, or revamping/downsizing. Last but not least is the news that Chanel, the epitome of luxury and chicness, laid off 200 workers. By the time I get my masters there won’t be any fashion jobs left.
