There have been some updates to The Gap Logo Fail story. Apparently they are keeping the old logo for now and will update the blue square with a red square for the holidays. I wish they would just leave it alone. This is getting to be ridiculous. They should have just kept the old one.
From Ad Age:
In the meantime, the website will go back to our iconic blue box logo and, for Holiday, we’ll turn our blue box red for our seasonal campaign.
We’ve learned a lot in this process. And we are clear that we did not go about this in the right way. We recognize that we missed the opportunity to engage with the online community. This wasn’t the right project at the right time for crowd sourcing.
I really tried to ignore writing this post because I thought this was some kind of bad and really late April’s Fools joke, but it wasn’t. The Gap changed their logo and it is all kinds of fail. I mean super duper fail. It bombs. It sucks…hard…real hard. It looks like the Gap literally fell out of its blue cubed home.
Why they would change their logo to this crazy thing is beyond me. I know the Gap is still stuck in the 90s, as some say, but I do enjoy shopping their for basics. I think if they updated their basics with only a few trendy items, things would be good. I don’t really feel like they needed to change their whole logo.
This is what the Gap had to say about their new logo on their Facebook page. If you ask me, it is a bunch of BS. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Thanks for everyone’s input on the new logo! We’ve had the same logo for 20+ years, and this is just one of the things we’re changing. We know this logo created a lot of buzz and we’re thrilled to see passionate debates unfolding! So much so we’re asking you to share your designs. We love our version, but we’d like to… see other ideas. Stay tuned for details in the next few days on this crowd sourcing project.
