Pick the right swimsuit

First and foremost, pick a swimsuit that flatters your body type. A little known fact is that a bathing suit with less coverage will actually make you look smaller. Instead of covering up with extra fabric, go for that string bikini and flaunt what you’ve got.

Hot Styles

I am loving the scuba styles that are hot right now – neoprene was big on the spring/summer runways and is a fun, edgy trend to embrace. The retro styles that are happening are also glamorous in a pin-up kind of way, but it’s not a trend that’s widely embraced or understood by most guys, so if you’re single and looking to mingle, I’d go with something a bit more overtly sexy. For example, try a one piece with cutouts, but be sure to stay under a beach umbrella or lather up the SPF to avoid funky tan lines!

Keep Jewelry Dainty and Your Beach Tote Natural

While I fully recommend styling your swim look with jewelry and a beach bag, it’s important to be a bit practical with your choices. I’d limit yourself to a delicate chain necklace or stud earring that you don’t mind getting wet – JustFab’s Cool Points mini studs are a personal fave. What I would also recommend is throwing a few statement pieces in your bag (that won’t tangle in transit), such as a couple bangles, to layer on when you hit the poolside café or leave the beach for drinks at sunset.
Go with a bag that’s suitable for the sun and sand. I’m partial to something natural like a tote that’s fabric, straw or woven. There are also some fun waterproof bags out there like JustFab’s Miami Beach jelly tote. Avoid anything that will get overly hot or reflect sunlight like a patent leather.

Slip Into the Right Shoes for the Terrain

Steer clear of stilettos on beach day! You want to avoid anything that’s going to sink into the sand or make it difficult to walk. I’d go with a gorgeous metallic flat sandal, such as JustFab’s Mykonos. If you’ll be poolside, you have a little more flexibility, and I’d gravitate towards an awesome cork or espadrille wedge that will add height and lengthen your leg. Stick to a suede or fabric/canvas, something that reads beachy like JustFab’s Majorca, which is just a simple nude espadrille wedge with a little ankle strap.

Cover It Up Effortlessly

When choosing a cover up, pick something that really seems effortless as opposed to a fully styled get up. You don’t want to look like you are trying too hard. I’m not a fan of the over embellished cover ups with beading and everything else. I prefer a more natural look like a pair of cut offs and a peasant top or a floaty sundress, something that will transition easily to wherever the day takes you next.
