Highlights from the October Issue of Harper’s Bazaar

  • Diane von Furstenberg: Unwrapped

In this candid profile, the legendary designer gets personal about her loves, her career, and her style. Coquettish, strong and outspoken, Diane von Furstenberg opens up to Harper’s Bazaar about the secrets behind her prolific success and glamorous life.

Below are some quotes from the interview and the full story is available here:
On her career: “I have great satisfaction because the older I get, the younger my consumers are. And that’s kind of fun, and that’s kind of keeping me young and making me relevant.”

Her mission is… “To empower women. Why? Because I wanted to be an empowered woman, and I became an empowered woman. And now I want to empower every woman. And I do it through my clothes, I do it through my words, I do it through my money, I do it through everything.”
On her designs: “I like to think that my style and the clothes I design are effortlessly elegant and sexy. I think the word effortless is very important. I think that that creates an ease and a confidence, because I think there’s nothing more beautiful than a woman who’s confident.”

  • Tim Burton’s Magical Fashion:

The season’s dark delights are reimagined in a lush photoshoot, featuring iconic looks inspired by Tim Burton films. The glamorous styles featured include Oscar de la Renta, Nina Ricci and Alexander McQueen. Photo credit: Tim Walker. The full slideshow is available here:

  • Cheap and Easy Fall Fashion: Make Cheap Chic:

While the fall season has offered a copious number of fashion trends, it has also refreshingly heralded the return of easy elegance that can make a statement with simple styles and neutral hues. Harper’s Bazaar shares affordable finds and shows you how to transform inexpensive pieces into timeless treasures

Hunt for rich-looking fabrics, mixing textures with an emphasis on contrast – for example, a leather jacket teamed up with a silky dress or a Banana Republic satin trench, with an organic knit. Plus, make a masculine-feminine point with a tailored jacket over a striped knit dress. For more looks, please visit this site.

For more fall looks, straight from runways and in stores, please see Runway Report, Harper’s Bazaar annual bonus issue, a who’s who guide to the hottest new designers, biggest fall trends, must-have accessories and much more. This issue comes out on September 29th.

The Curvy Fashionista has the scoop on the May issue of Australia’s Harper’s Bazaar. The mag just so happens to have an editorial with one of my favorite plus sized models, Crystal Renn. I remember the first time I saw her. It made me feel like she’s big, I’m big, and we are both beautiful. Haters are gonna hate. If she can be confident in her body and herself, then so can I. To see the rest of the photos, go to The Curvy Fashionista or buy a copy of the new Australian Harper’s Bazaar.
