I recently got some wide calf boots from DSW that actually fit my calf muscles. Color me surprised. When I see a boot labeled wide calf in the store, they don’t usually fit. I get really skeptical when I see the label on boots because of that. However… When I went to DSW there were a ton of boots to pick from. Some fit and some didn’t, but the ones I bought look fantastic.
I love a good wide calf over the knee boot. I have wide calves, so something cute that comes wide and over the knee is something I am always looking for when I go boot shopping. I still have a black pair from Torrid that I got years ago when I was in college. I found a pair that comes in Cognac and Black (both leather) from Nordstrom that is on sale right now! They were originally $99.95, but now they are $66.96! That is a steal you guys!!!! They come in sizes 6.5 to 11. Yes you read that correct. Nordstrom does a good job of carrying hard to find sizes.
Buy the Chinese Laundry ‘Spring Street’ Boot (Wide Calf) Womens now, because Nordstrom will probably sell out of this cute wide calf over the knee boot fast because a style like this in this many sizes is rare. Photos from Nordstrom.
Boohoo has a pair of affordable over the knee boots that look similar to a certain Stuart Weitzman pair, but are on sale for much-much-much less! Did I say much less?! I have always wanted a pair of those boots because they go over the knee, are classic, and have an elastic panel in the back that can stretch over my big dancer calf muscles. The original pair costs way too much for me, but I think I can do these. You can get these cute, classic over the knee boots for $70. Also get 20% off the site right now with the code USA20. A fringe fashion trend that has been rapidly gaining popularity the past few seasons have been over-the-knee boots. From the runways of Prada to the sidewalks of New York, this is one fashion look that will get you some serious attention because of the fierce factor and leg-lengthening properties.
While even knee-high boots can be a nightmare for your average girl to fit, there are a few tricks that will help you find the perfect OTK boot for you.
It’s Over-the-Knee, not Over-the-Top
Just an inch or two over the knee will do the trick to get the look, and less leg means fewer areas to fit (or not fit).
Soften with Suede
Suede stretches more than leather for those girls with thicker legs, and for those on the slimmer side, it looks delightful as a slouchy fit. It also tones down the look overall for a softer vibe.
Try a convertible boot that folds up or down. These often use slits or elastic panels to be able to fold down over the calf, so when pulled up it gives more wiggle room for the fit around the thigh. Also that means that when the trend fades out, you can just fold them down and rock those boots next season as well.
Now that you’ve found the perfect fit, what do you wear it with?
Are you the sporty type? Try a flat cognac boot with your favorite skinny jeans and a boyfriend cardigan.
Diva rocker? Pull on a thigh high black leather boot with a flirty skirt and denim jacket, and don’t forget the red lipstick.
Sophisticated classic? A kitten heel boot with opaque stockings and a sheath dress should do the trick.

Stuart Weitzman has a $10,000 thigh-high boot in their 2010 Holiday Collection that is adorned with 22,000 Swarovski crystals. These silver over-the-knee boots are too fab for words. I can’t believe the price of these boots. I can totally see Beyonce or Lady Gaga wearing these boots in the near future. They are very divalicious. The boots are available by special order at Stuart Weitzman Madison Avenue 212-750-2555. What do you think about these boots?
Pre-Fall 2010 collections came out last week and they are pretty interesting so far. I usually don’t pay that much attention to resort or pre-fall but everyone kept talking about how cool pre-fall was. I decided to give them a chance. So far everything looks good, but it looks like a continuation from last spring and fall. Photos from Style.com. Part two comes tomorrow.
This collection was a very sharp and serious turn for the young designer. He usually creates funky, laid back sportswear that you can wear anytime and almost anyplace. It reminded me of grown up work wear with a twist because there were a lot of trousers and shorts with trousers underneath. Wang said this collection was for the girl who has “to go to work sometime.”
Christopher Bailey did an awesome job with Burberry’s pre-fall collection. I thought the muted blues, khakis, plums, and blacks were great. The lines were crisp and the tailoring was sharp. This military themed collection went back to the company’s roots, and it worked out great.
Karl Lagerfeld showed a collection in the city that inspired it, Shanghai. The collection was also inspired by the military, so there were Asian prints mixed with Communist military uniforms. I liked how a good majority of the outfits were mostly dark with little bursts of yellow and red. I can also tell you that over the knee boots aren’t going anywhere.
DVF’s collection was colorful and very very youthful. It reminded me of something that the girls on The City or Gossip Girl would wear. The collection was full of cute colors and nifty patterns. There was also an abundance of cropped coats, pants, and shorts. Furstenburg designed a collection that was fun, hip, and cool.
The thing that caught my eye in this collection was the use of orange and the use of patterns. Patterns were used heavily throughout this collection and popped up on blouses and dresses. The color orange was barely used in this collection but stood out to me because of its brightness in a sea of black clothes that I could see women wearing either to work or out at night for a fancy dinner. It was a good solid collection.
I have a few Steals and Deals for you, so either shop for yourself or someone else. The holidays are approaching. I find that time to be less stressful when I get all of my gifts out of the way in advance.
