Of Note…Nina Garcia

nina garcia

Nina Garcia was born on May 3rd, 1965 in Barranquilla, Colombia. Garcia is best known as a judge on the hit show Project Runway, but her career in fashion started over 20 years ago. She came to the United States a a child to attend boarding school. From there she attended Boston University, Ecole Superieure de la Mode, and FIT. Before she worked in magazines, she worked for Perry Ellis in the public relations department while Marc Jacobs was the designer of the label.

Soon she moved to Mirabella as a stylist and market editor. Garcia became the fashion director at Elle in 2000 and moved to Marie Claire in 2008. Nina Garcia has written four books, all of which I think you should look into buying. The books are The Little Black Book of Style, The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own, The Style Strategy, and  Nina Garcia’s Look Book. I own The One Hundred and think that is the best book for those who don’t know how to build a wardrobe. The coolest thing, besides writing style books, that I feel Nina Garcia has done, is to make a Tumblr. Her Tumblr is just as cool and stylish as she is. Check it out for some great inspiration. Charleston Fashion Week Day 2

Hello everybody! I am still in Charleston enjoying the festivities. Last night I met the lovely Candace from Dollface Style Scoop and The Shop Tart. I really enjoy meeting the people I talk to online because it so so so cool to put a face to the name. The fashion show last night featured different brands and boutiques. Plus Project Runway alum Mychael Knight debuted his first full collection since the show last night.

* Please note that my videography skills suck as always, and there is another sideways video section, but it is my fault this time because I thought the video would know to switch it back. Oh well. I’m learning! :)*

Monkee’s of Daniel Island-
The eclectic boutique blend funky rock and roll chic with a soft, feminine edge. I love the yellow eyes and lips on the models. I might actually try that. You can find them at www.monkeesofdanielisland.com.

Banana Republic-
This classic store showed the equally classic looks that it is known for. Ladies it you are looking for a great button down, some khaki pants, or a great spring sweater. Check BR out in a mall near you.

Sucker Jeans-
I was a little skeptical of this local line when I first heard about it, but being from the South I automatically love seersucker. I’m happy to say that the line didn’t disappoint me at all. Buy a pair for yourself or your favorite guy before summer starts. Check them out here.

Thera M-
This Daniel Island boutique showed some crazy cute girly pieces from Leifsdottir, Mara Hoffman, Ali Ro, and Anlo. Check them out at www.shoptheram.com.

House of Sage-
House of Sage is a new boutique that features laid back, yet really stylish clothes from brands like French Connection and Mavi. The clothes reminded me of LA or SoHo in NYC. Visit House of Sage here.

Palm Avenue-
Palm Avenue is a Lilly Pulitzer shop. I love Lilly Pulitzer clothes. One of the things I like to do with this brand is search for the word Lilly written in tiny letters that they hid in the fabric. It is like searching for Waldo. I really like the Palm Beach feel of the clothes. The store even features a Lilly print with skulls on it. Super cute! Shop here.

Mychael Knight-
Last night was the first night he debuted his full collection since PR and it was worth the wait. While I think he did a good job on PR, I think he still had a ways to go to improve his skill and taste level. Yesterday’s collection, entitled Carte Blanche, showed a new Mychael Knight. One that you didn’t see on Project Runway. One that had the power to show whatever he wanted to show. The striking white and black collection was full of elegant architectural pieces and jackets and leggings to die for. It was very space age and futuristic. I wish him much success.

New York Spring Fashion Week Post 4

It’s all about the DETAILS!!!
This is why I would love to go to fashion week. SEND ME INVITES! SEND ME INVITES! SEND ME INVITES! I need to see the details of the garments in the flesh. Both the Christian Siriano and Alexander Wang shows were full of little details that really brought the whole masterpiece together.

Alexander Wang delivered yet another knock them out the park collection. It featured his signature separates that look great dressed up or way down for the edgy girl who doesn’t care, but this time they were football themed. Maybe the fall football season was calling him. I don’t know or care because the collection was amazing. The purses looked like footballs, and the shorts looked like vintage football uniform pants. The leather used throughout the whole collection reminded me of football pigskin. I also liked how he had the models wear exposed underwear that were basically sport bras and panties. The capes, leather jackets, and sweaters are great to wear on a cool spring night. Wang’s shoes caught me off guard because they are not what you would expect from a football themed show, but I loved them too. They were leopard print shoes. OMG! I can hear Rachel Zoe screaming “I DIE!” right now.

Christian Siriano’s collection was just as amazing! His collection was totes for that girly girl who loves their outfits to have hats and heels with the purse to match. The color story was amazing as well. The colors ranged from warm oranges, to neutral creams, and then to cool blues. This was another Spring 2010 collection that featured the graphic print. Obviously everyone got the same memo that said “Graphic prints are going to be huge. You snooze, you lose!” I missed that memo, just like the US Postal Service missed my New York Fashion week invites. Siriano’s draping was fantastic, as usual. I also like the rough details on the hats because they were a nice contrast to the soft draping shown in his clothes. Oh and did I tell you that the uber hot shoes with the curved heels are totally supposed to come out in January for Payless, but will probs be toned way down. I am giving Payless the sad and happy face.

“Project Runway” will finally make its move to Lifetime. NBC Universal, parent of Bravo, and The Weinstein Co. have settled their dispute over the reality program, which will allow its sixth season to air on Lifetime.

According to NBC, The Weinstein Co. will pay NBC Universal for the right to move “Project Runway” to Lifetime.

“All of the parties are pleased with the outcome,” NBC said. Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Co., said: “I want to personally congratulate Jeff Zucker and NBCU on their success in the litigation and thank Jeff for resolving this in a professional manner. We look forward to working together on our ongoing projects.”

What In The Crazy Cat Lady Hell Is This!

Kenley Collins From Project Runway Beat up her bf with a cat?!?!?!?!

From TMZ.com:
One of the most memorable — and hated — finalists from Project Runway is behind bars right now for allegedly fashioning a weapon out of a living, breathing, meowing cat … and firing it at her ex-fiance!

Kenley Collins — the trash-talking, third place loser from P.R. Season 5 — was arrested in a Brooklyn home early yesterday morning, after the D.A. claims she attacked her sleeping ex-fiance with anything she could get her hands on — including a cat, a laptop, several apples and finally … water. It’s like a design challenge turned violent!

It’s unclear what started the fight, but according to legal papers Kenley told her ex, “You’re lucky … it could’ve been a lot worse.”

Kenley was arrested and charged with six crimes — including 2nd degree assault, 3rd degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree.

No word on when Kenley is set to be released from jail.
