Hedi Slimane’s first Saint Laurent Paris SS 13 Collection has finally debuted. If there was a battle between this collection and Raf Simons’ Dior collection…I think Hedi Slimane won. While Raf Simons’ collection was good, Slimane’s was great.I am tired of the boho trend, but this collection was boho, urban cowgirl is the best way possible. The slim pantsuits and slim stilettos were very sexy. The flowy printed peasant dresses and fringed suede brought new meaning to the term the Wild Wild West. The bow and tassled collars with the giant hats made the women look like it was disco night at the saloon. It was great to see him move from menswear to womenswear. I can’t wait to see what he is going to show next season because I know it is going to be great. He totally exceeded all of my expectations.
Raf Simons for Christian Dior Spring 2013 seems to be a hit amongst the fashion elite and Paris Fashion Week has barely started. The show which is to be the first among what the media is calling a showdown between Raf Simons for Dior and Hedi Slimane for Yves Saint Laurent or Saint Laurent Paris as it is now being called.
Paris Couture Week F/w 12 has basically ended and it was as beautiful as ever! I really enjoyed most of the collections this season! This couture season was very exciting for several reasons. First off Kimye or Kim Kardashian and Kanye West showed up and showed out by causing mass hysteria and mini pandemonium during the three or four days they were in Paris. Apparently even a child got pushed around in the mayhem. They even pissed off some editors and the like for showing up to the Stephane Rolland show one hour late. They were so late that they barely made it to the finale. SMH! Then we saw an overabundance of V-necks and cape dresses on the runway. I think those are two trends I can live with.
Raf Simons, formally of Jil Sander, will be replacing John Galliano at Dior. After many months of speculation, many say that the official announcement will come from the couture house on Wednesday. Many can rejoice because Raf Simons seems to be a great fit for the house of Dior. His last collection for Jil Sander for the Fall 12 season was a massive hit with critics, and looks to be a precursor to what Simons may design for Dior now that he is on board. I wonder what is going to happen to Bill Gaytten. He was Galliano’s lackluster assistant that took over after Galliano was fired from Dior. Photos from Style.com.
To prove that, because of my cold, I have way too much time on my hands, I have decided to write in my iPad Notebook a little cheat sheet on the following fashion industry rumors. This is my way of keeping it all together. Since Galliano was fired from Dior a year ago, the fashion world has been going through a guessing game of which designer is going to which fashion house. This morning sees the rumors going on overdrive yet again.
While Paris Fashion Week is starting with arrested designers, here are a few of the collections from Milan Fashion Week that I thought were worth mentioning.
Moschino Cheap & Chic was one of my favorite collections. I loved the oversized plaids, warm looking fur, and short skirts. This is a collection that I could actually see myself wearing.
Dolce & Gabbana was a little hit or miss with me. I didn’t like the whole Teddy Boy mixed with starry print dress look. I loved the dresses, and actually like the Teddy Boy look, but not when they are together.
