Spring 2012 Couture Fashion Week is going on right now in Paris, France. The menswear shows have just finished, and in a few weeks the hoopla of fashion week will start all over again. Aren’t you excited?!?! I am!
Donatella designed a Versace collection that looked like a 60s lacy space gladiator. The colors went from a lavender grey to neon green. This collection was great considering this was the first couture collection they had done in quite a few years.
For the second season in a row Versace is live streaming their Women’s Fall 2011 show in Milan. Last season it was great, so I can’t wait to view the show tomorrow. I watched the Gucci and Alberta Ferretti shows online yesterday and the Burberry show a day or two ago. Watching the live streams are a great way to get into the action if you can’t be there.
The Versace show will be shown tomorrow Friday February 25 at 1pm EST / 7pm CEST. Go to Versace’s Facebook page to RSVP. When you RSVP, you will get a video message from Donatella Versace herself. Happy Viewing!
Sixteen year old American modeling sensation Lindsey Wixson is unrecognizable in this ad for Versace’s newest perfume, Vanitas. I am not gonna lie, the ad is hot, but I didn’t even know it was her. Lindsey is doing so well right now. She walked a ton of big shows this season, and she is building a nice portfolio with her ad campaigns. Pretty sweet for a high schooler. Photo from The Cut.
Everybody, especially on my Facebook page, has been raving about this video.
This is what the press release says:
LOVE AND VERSACE RELEASE TRAILER FOR THEIR NEW FILM ‘MODELGEDDON’
See first glimpse of a LOVE and VERSACE city, the completely original design of which was digitally created specifically for this film by Director and Designer, James Lima, with Creative Direction by LOVE’s Editor-in-Chief, Katie Grand.
Grand says: “Working with James Lima again was of course completely thrilling, and adding Versace in to the mix was very exciting. The models we used are badass cyber chicks who are so cool and fuck-me gorgeous they don’t care that the world is falling apart. James is indeed a genius.”
This city in fact does not exist; Alessandra Ambrosio, Ana Beatriz Barros, Claudia Mason, and Julie Ordon, all wearing Versace Fall/Winter 2010/11, were filmed separately, acting and reacting to the virtual world crumbling around them. Lima describes MODELGEDDON as:”Supermodels, being über bitchy, dressed in sexy Versace, shot with a RED camera, with a huge amount of computer graphic destruction, in a photo-real urban landscape”.
Official Statement From Christopher Kane:
For this Versus SS11 collection I played with combining floral, tartan stripe prints from the Versus archive, to achieve twisted and drape mesh dresses. The colour palette is very bright and optimistic (yellow, green, purple, orange, red and blue). I have worked printed mesh into longer, leaner dresses, and knitwear for a more casual sporty/grungy approach. The core of the collection is multi drape stretch mesh dresses using layers of printed mesh. Short comes in multicoloured pop dresses. Shoes and bags feature print and brogue details.
The first office look came from DKNY. This one is from Versace, and I would probably add a black shell or even a red shell underneath so I wouldn’t get fired. Heh Heh!

I know pre-fall collections get in stores early, but these designers made half summer/half fall weather clothing. They are bright, short, cropped, and tight. Even the coats are minimal. In spite of all that, these three collections are my favorites so far. Photos from Style.com.
Her collection was dazzling. I really loved how Herrera created structured pieces and then blended them with insane color and patterns. Big sleeves and draping were big themes in her collection. She also used color blocking and lush silks which made the clothes look rich. As usual, her evening dresses were phenomenal. She never has a bad collection.
Rachel Roy’s collection started off with floral pastel prints and moved into solid neutrals and cool colors. It seemed like this collection was a mix between the feminine and masculine sides of a women. The pants were either tight like leggings or loose and cropped. The dresses were tight and body conscious, but not too tight that they looked sleazy. This was also another collection that featured draping, but it also featured a mix of textures from soft to rough. The collection looks interesting.
Versace was bright, sharp, and very Italian. The platforms and hemlines were high, but the clothes were even tighter. I liked the detailing on the clothes. There were a lot of panels of fabric going up and down and around the clothes. This collection featured patterns too. I think this whole pattern thing that has been going on for at least two seasons now and is going to stay for at least one more season. So stock up.

Last week I did a post called What Is Your Favorite Super Memory? I want to thank all of the readers who commented on that post. I think it is great to look back at a time when fashion was fun, even fanciful. Fashion today is kind of dark and business like. It is basically more about the bottom line instead of art, but I think the girls of Rodarte, Alexander Wang, and others are changing things again. Models are becoming popular again too. Hopefully they don’t overshadow the designers like last time and bring us back into the dark ages. BLAH!
Enough of my rant. What I wanted to say was… thanks Ondo Lady, from The Musings of Ondo Lady, for spurring my memory with this comment:
My favorite memory of the supermodels was at the Versace show when Naomi, Cindy, Linda and Christy came down the runway miming to the George Michael song, Freedom. Now that was a moment and I doubt if we will see anything like that again.
How could I forget? Well I found a video clip of that exact moment. The video is about 9 mins of awesome fashion moments. Watch all of it to see how the models used to walk a show, or skip all the way to the 6:09 mark and behold the day that most people say the Super was born.
I recently did a guest blogging post for the Demoiselles on body image. The post is scheduled to go up today. Please check it out. I wrote from the heart, and I think their body image series is a great read for everyone.
