Of Note…Michelle Lee

This week’s Of Note post on KCD casting director Michelle Lee is the second post in the new series. The first post was of make-up maven Pat McGrath. I hope you are enjoying this new series. If you have suggestions/feedback, let me know in the comments section or email me.

Casting director Michelle Lee was born in New Jersey and thought that one day she would become a lawyer, but fate had other plans.  She moved to New York City and became a fashion show producer with top fashion firm KCD. Through producing fashion shows and a brief stint with renowned casting director Jennifer Venditti, Lee found that she could make a living finding models for editorials, ads, and fashion shows. She never knew that the role of casting director even existed before that time.

New York Spring Fashion Week Post 5

Fashion week is still rolling on and everyone is patiently waiting for the big Marc show tonight. While you wait, check out my reviews of these collections.

Victoria Beckham’s collection was a little bit of the same from last time with a few changes. I think she is becoming more confident with her collection and herself. For those of you who don’t know, the reason she doesn’t smile is because she is really shy and trying to avoid people. According to a few tweets, she actually came out and explained her collection to people, so I think that is a great move for her. You are going to see the same 50’s housewife, Dior’s New Look, sharp geometric shapes, but you are also going to see a pattern splashed in there and some lacey cut out mesh fabric. Do I think the last two elements should have been added to the collection…NO, but she was trying to break up her collection. I can see some potential in the future. Overall it was good and I can see people buying it.

Diane von Furstenburg’s collection was more summer oriented than spring, but I loved it. I thought it was awesome how she mixed neutrals with neon colors. the whole collection was very tropical. The prints and fabrics really made you feel like you were on the beach. The model’s wavy hair and bright makeup make me miss summer already. I also applaud DVF for being one of the few designers to use ethnic women in her show. As president of the CFDA, she has to take stands on what she believes in. Hopefully other designer will follow suit. I doubt it though.

Erin Fetherston gets a big round of applause from me. I usually like all of her collections because they are youthful and unique, but there is only so much of the Minnie Mouse and Alice in Wonderland look, that she presents year in and year out, one can take. Well I think Erin got the memo. Her collection, while maintaining its youthful charm, is very much grown up. There are no Lolita’s here. The collection was inspired by her childhood in Japan, and I can totally see that in the floral prints, cut of the garments, and flowing gowns. This collection was one of her best because she actually took the time to mature.
