Friend to the blog and friend in real life, designer Washington Roberts created a spring 2015 collection that is architecturally sound. Roberts’ designs always look good, and in the three years since he started his namesake line you can see his attention to detail and sophistication. When his first came to America from Nigeria, he wanted to be an engineer.
I know the spring shows are going on right now, but I wanted to bring it back to fall for a little bit with Washington Roberts‘ Fall/Winter 2013 collection. Grab your pumpkin spice latte and get into the leather and velvet. Get into the sheer detailing and architectural styling of these garments. Roberts always does a good job of dressing the confident and sexy woman, who wants to feel pretty, but not lose her edge.
I am loving the difference in the pant leg sizes too. They go from skinny to skinny flare to supremely wide! It gives a girl options, and who doesn’t like options? Menswear inspired looks were placed throughout the collection as well and usually ended up in dress form or mixed with a flouncy skirt. Have you gotten into the fabulousness of this collection yet?
Washington Roberts is a true friend of the blog on the internet and in real life, so don’t think this compliment is biased. His clothes are really good, and they just keep getting better and better everyday. He always has a great eye for color, but that combined with the excellent selection of fabrics really make this collection. What can I say, I’m impressed yet again. Friend to the blog and designer Washington Roberts, fresh out of African Fashion Week, has opened an online boutique at washingtonroberts.com. Now you can find all of his new and upcoming designs. Washington Roberts ships internationally, but shipping is free for American shoppers. Proceeds from each sale benefit the Susan G. Komen For The Cure via Every Swipe Counts.
Washington Roberts is back with his Spring/Summer 2011 collection. You may remember me writing about Washington Roberts in September. The collection is inspired by the movie Avatar. It also features sheer, textured fabrics and cutouts. I am loving the feather accents and body conscious looks. There are also a few pairs of white pants in the collection that are perfect for the summer. Roberts will show at Africa Fashion Week in July. What do you think of this collection?
I met Washington Roberts at a nice little industry tweet-up (set up by Ope) at Taj in NYC . He showed me some pictures of his work and I was blown away. Washington is very young, yet his work is really mature and sophisticated. His pieces are made with lush fabrics for the women who has places to be. You can tell by his designs that he has a clear vision and already has his customer in mind. Even though the pieces look fancy, I saw a lot of basics for the women who needs to move between work during the day and the gala at night.
My favorite piece is the silk creme tuxedo, but I love the dresses, top, and skirts too. I can just see people doing so many things with his recent collection. The colors are great too because they give you variety. There are some neutrals and some bright colors which make it great to mix or match. He is very talented, and I think we will be seeing more of him shortly.
I have some great posts for you that probably won’t be made until Friday, unless I have some time tonight, because I will be driving back to Columbia after the Isaac Mizrahi show, instead of flying back to help my aunt out with her move. I went to some great showrooms while I was here. I can’t wait to show you some of the jewelry from Atelier Minyon.
I met some designers from my school. Hopefully they will send me some of their information, so I can show you their work. I also got some pictures from new designer Washington Roberts and some video from the Tibi show, although that video might be a little bright.
Also can we talk about how I saw Kanye West, Jason Sudeikis, and Cynthia Rowley walking around NYC the other day. I even nodded and Kanye and he actually said “What’s Up!” Can you talk about starstruck. I have also seen Robbie Meyers from Elle, Nina Garcia-who makes a pretty pregnant women, the blogger from WhereDidYouGetThat, and I also saw this famous fashion journalist whose name escapes me:( .
